Same as their R290X Tri-X, one of the coolest & quietest custom cards around. That's the advantage of excessive size heatsinks & triple fans.

Any reason we can't OC these things? These cards have amazing cooling and yet we can't utilize it at all!
What's the word from AMD?

Would be great to know. Looks like a beast of a card, but like a proper beast it needs to be tweakable.

The guy who makes the core of Afterburner said that each new series need an updated entry to control their vcore, because they never received a Fury X sample from AMD, they had to work with retail samples but it should be available soon.

Sapphire also said their Trixx software will support Fury vcore mod.

It looks like Fury X is a premature launch, I bet AMD planned on doing the full launch alongside Windows 10 with more mature drivers and vcore mod support for reviewers, but the 980Ti forced their early release of Fury X.

Had a buddy build a system with a non-Tri-x 290 this weekend and it was loud as hell. Is Tri-X that much quieter?

Yeah, it is very quiet, especially compared to the reference cooler, it is like a night/day difference.

Look at Anandtech's review of the sapphire's Fury Tri-X. That card running crysis 3 is as quiet than a reference 980Ti at idle

475w peak while running future mark....how safe is this if you run this on a consistent basis?

Furmark results should be entirely ignored for all cards because they are so far away from reality.

Another pretty card from Sapphire that will have dead fans within 6-12 months. I've been betrayed by them too many times to fall for it again.

That doesn't make sense chronologically. AMD had announced that they would release in June before the 980 Ti was even announced. 980 Ti came about as show stealer for Fury X, not the other way around.

Had few sapphires cards myself, none have fan's problem at all.

1) My current R9 290 Tri-X, 18 months usage (mining 24/7 first 2.5 months)
2) Old HD5670, 4 years usage (sold, fans still working)
3) Cousin's HD7790 dual-X, 8 months usage, fans still working fine

Never heard of fans dieing that quickly, I assume you got replacements under warranty?
I also wonder if you can substitute other fans there...

BTW, anyone placing any bets on if they will have enough stock on this and the Asus version when they start selling them on the 14th?

I bet supply will be just as tight as it is on the Fury X.

The Sapphire has 2BB fans. They are as durable a design as is available.

It only seems to happen with Sapphire cards. Unless Sapphire has dramatically improved the quality of the fans they use, I'll be skipping it simply due to the number of times Sapphire GPUs have had early fan deaths (at least three times I can recall) when other brands did not.

My daughter has had a Sapphire Tri-X OC 290X for a year now, no issues. I have a Sapphire 6950 that has been running for years. Again, no issues. None with my previous Sapphire 5870 either. That's three generations worth of Sapphire cards. Unless you were using your cards for mining, I can't imagine what would cause multiple cards to experience fan failure.

Can we please stop calling these things "aftermarket"? It's clearly not aftermarket. Aftermarket implies that the customer buys a modification, and applies it to a purchased product.

I'm going to have a hard time waiting for a fury x if these things release and they are in stock.

Regular use, something prior to 6950 I forget the model, and two 6950s. All garbage quality fans from Sapphire that start making clicking noises between 3-9 months of use and eventually outright fail. Other brand cards from the same vintage worked just fine.
