Sapphire 9800SE SoftMod to 9800Pro Help!

Hi:

I bought a Sapphire 9800SE from Newegg Newegg Link to Sapphire 9800SE and based on the users review from Newegg, they commented that the card can be SoftModded to 9800Pro? How someone tell me how to SoftMod the card?

Does any one have experience with this card since I am thinking whether I should keep it... it seems a great deal if the card runs as 9800Pro with the $140 I paid. Any comment?

Also if I SoftModded the card to 9800Pro, does it consider as overclocked and should I get a better heat sink?

Thanks

Yes I just I saw the link (posted earlier) in Newegg and that's card many users commented can be SoftMod to unlock all 8 pipes... thus I just go ahead and buy it... but I don't know how to SoftMod, can anyone help? Is SoftMod same as overclock and if so should I get a better HS?

I really wanna see if I can SoftMod it so I may start playing the latest game! Thanks!

Is the image accurate. The reason I ask is that I believe Saphire is the only manufacturer that used a spetial I ram pcb whith only 128 memory interface which would make it only as good as a 9500 Pro overclocked if succesfully modded.

Most other SEs had 256 bit memory.

Anyway, do what lordtyranus2 said and try installing the omega drivers with the 9800se to 9800Pro hack, if it works then your have a 9800 Pro if not you are no worse off.

irenealan,

that is the only Sapphire 9800SE that can be softmodded to unlock the other 4 pipelines to have 8 total effective pipes...unfortunately, the people who posted reviews/comments on their purchase of that card are idiots, as you cannot softmod the Sapphire version into a 9800pro
it will softmod into a 9800NP
the core clock rates at 325mhz, and the memory at 290mhz...it comes with 3.3ns hynix ram
I've bought this card before
it's success rate runs around 50% to softmod
www.omegacorner.com is where you would get the Omega drivers to install tosoftmod the card with
after softmodding, the card will run a bit warmer, but there is no need to upgrade your HSF unless you want to OC it, which I think I'd recommend with this particular card, since it's core/mem speeds are so low
it would have been a better choice to get the $155 powercolor 9800se, as that one runs at true 9800 pro speeds right out of the box, and has the highest success rate (75%) and will unlock to a true pro card
your Sapphire may checkerboard or have strange artifacts (mine had a ton), so be wary
if you were wondering, softmodding will not void any warranty, as it is not the same as OCing
hope that helps

thanks for everyone's help. it's nice to see people follow up this thread even after two months. Anyhow I got on the recent $180 deal for 9800 Pro and a switch to such card instead. But thanks for everyone's help and it's good information to know! Thanks.
