I answer even worse than this IRL when someone starts with the derogative talk out of the blue.

In fact I refrained myself since this place has some rules.

Ah. I forgot where I was there for a second.

Clearly I cannot force my desire for what this forum should be on others (it's the Internets) but this attitude bother the crap out of me.

Just like people are dicks to each other while driving in a way they would never be in person (at least here in "MN nice" land), so to does the Internet roll...

Sorry to single you out, this posting just exceeded my tolerance levels. I think I need to go outside for a while.
relax dude, why would you let what a stranger says online(to someone else no less) affect you so much you need to go outside to relieve stress? you sound kind of scary.

hah - it was the fact that I was merely beginning to care which is the issue :p

Going outside is a metaphor :)

Or maybe I am that scary! :awe:

Online forums are serious business, man!

Love the all-black, wish they did this to the 7950 OC. As others have stated, the cooler a GPU/CPU runs, the better for power usage, longevity and more importantly OCing stability.

I'm sorry but if you can't see how a cool and silent card is a good thing you seriously fail at electronics.

OMG....I just ordered a XFX Double Dissipation HD7970. However, my entire computer/color scheme is Black and Blue....oh if only I freaking knew this was coming out!!

And I am guessing there is no release date for this baby yet?

My msi oc edition with the reference cooler hasn't hit over 68cel yet with the fanspeed at 45%,card and pc build in a antec 300 with 3 fans on medium speed, soon to be a df-85 case.

45% fanspeed is the lowest my perfectionist ass can lower it to,going to 40% even drastically lowers the fans rpms enough to send the card into a 76 cel load temp and for me that's to high as i'm protective of the investment LOL and i wanna keep it under 70cel at all times.

10c cooler than a ref model at 5 decibels quieter. Remember, every 10 decibels denotes "double" in loudness.

So that thing is quiet, cooler, and faster. I'm jealous. With so many ref models going around, I expect the after market kits to be amazing.

If this unit replaces their ref model unit - I will be pissed! But, it's my fault haha.

Sound pressure doubles every 3 decibels, not 10.
Edit: Nevermind, You're talking about perceived hearing, not absolute sound pressure.

I like how in the review in the OP they use a bunch of games from 2010 and earlier for benchmarking.

Hello everyone.

The Sapphire HD 7870 "GHz" will launch on 19th March and it will be equipped with this new so-called Dual-X cooling system :

http://gaming.sapphiretech.com/presentation/media/?psn=0004&articleID=4197

I'm interested in silence, and I'm not happy with the cooler of my 4870 Vapor-X, I find it still quite noisy. According to many people, the 7870 performs a little better than the 6970, so this is indeed a good card.

According to the 7970 review by TweakTown, this new Dual-X system is even less noisy than the classic dual-fan cooler we could find on the 6970 dual-fan (or on the 6870 Dirt 3) :

*Sapphire 6970 Dual-Fan : 61.3 / 58.1 DB
*Sapphire 7970 Dual-X : 57.8 / 57.2 DB , which is quite amazing in load, and still ok in idle...

So LEHTV, when you say that this is a "Perfectly normal double slot dual fan cooler.", I would say there is a chance you might be wrong, maybe the "Dual-X" appellation is not only a marketing thing, and maybe people at Sapphire did improve their cooling system even further. That is to say, providing we trust this review, of course. I'm not sure, but you see, if it really performs that silent, then it might be very interesting.

However, although when you look at the 7970 card you can see on the cooler (and box) the mention "Dual-X", it is strange that on the 7870 pictures (on Sapphire's web site, link on bottom) there is no such label, and that the cooler we can see on those pictures seems to be exactly the same as the classic Dual-fan cooler. But maybe those pictures only show older design intentions. We will have to wait and see.

After having a 470 i will never have another reference cooler unless they have some major changes. The zalman coolers along with those msi twin frozr coolers are just too awesome.

I agree that Zalman VF1000 / VF3000 are awesome, but the problem is they don't have auto-regulation. Of course you can cut the wire of your original cooler and do something with a pair of scissors and soldering iron, but it's not convenient.

About MSI Twin Frozr though, I'm not sure if it is as good as Dual-X in terms of silence ; if you look at the review :

MSI HD 7950 Twin Frozer III => 67.7 / 56.7 DB
Sapphire HD7970 Dual-X => 57.8 / 57.2 DB

I have Sapphire's 7950 with this "Dual-X" cooler and can tell you it's easily the most quiet GPU I've ever had (out of 12+). The shape of the fins on the fan allow for the quiet operation and the combination of the heat-spreader on the PCB and the copper pipes from the heatsink gives it much-better-than-reference temps. Overclocked to 1100/1500 with 1.2v I've never seen load temps above 65C while gaming (ambient is ~67F). That's very low load temps for an OCed GPU. With my past cards, I was happy to see load temps below 85C at stock speeds.

Don't take my word for it, there are many reviews on the Sapphire 7950 with this cooler (same cooler for 7870/7970).

Can you tell me please whether it is written "Dual-X" on the box and on the fans themselves like on the 7970 ?

Because on the pictures on Sapphire web site I can see no "Dual-X" label on the box, and on the fans there is only a normal "Sapphire" label.
