Sapphire 4860 $115 shipped: Possible rebate too

Newegg has the Sapphire 4860 1GB at $114.99 FS, with code EMCYZNW73. On the card's page they also list a $10 rebate, so it's possible this could be as low as $105.

The 4860 appears to be made from 4890s that didn't make the cut, and reports vary on them, from cool and overclockable to hot and not. At the $105 spot, it is very competitive with the remaining 4850s available.

In another note, I just noticed that Newegg also appears to have the Sapphire 4850x2 2GB in at $215 shipped.

Rebate is valid for this card, unfortunately only one per household. However, the $15 code works for up to 5 cards.

CA tax kills it for me though. Ugh.

4860 should be faster than the 5750. However, the 5750 will consume less power and should run cooler.

The 4860 also has the potential to be overclocked pretty well, but you'd have to use a rivatuner workaround. Since they're cut-down 4890's, you have the possibility of getting an excellent overclocker or a complete dud - very much a coin-flip.

5750 can also "run" games in DX11, albeit at low settings.

Not very many reviews on this card. Kind of bummed since it's a pretty interesting EOL part.

My understanding of the 4860 was that it was orginally intended for non North American distribution, but the falloff on video card supplies, due to the slower availablity of the 58** and the Apple buyout of the 4850 line chipsets, gave this more of a chance than expected.

At this price point ($105-$115), it seems a pretty good deal, though you won't know whether you have gotten a hot one (either way) til you get it installed.

Thx for the advice. Maybe I will stick with the 5750 just to be on the safe side then. A lot of people have told me, I shouldnt get a video card at this point in anticipation for dx11 games. Since by the time those games are done correctly, my video card will probably be outdated already. Lolz.

"A lot of people" have a valid point - the 5750 is a low-end part of this new generation. Temper your DX11 expectations accordingly.

If you ignore DX11, the 5750 is still a good part for the price, and the 4860 (for the price) is possibly very good, possibly just decent.

This thing makes my 4830 look like a sour deal considering i paid the same for it. The memory setup on this GPU is great.

This GPU is nothing like your 4830. It's more like 4890 with a small cut on cores. But considering this is RV790 it should overclock great.

Performance point of view this chip is best in it's price range. With some overclocking it will be faster than 4870. Something a 5750 in most situations won't be able to do.

I am not sure I agree with you 100% - the core is very similar. Sure, it has all the 4870 to 4890 tweaks for more headroom, but as far as actual shader power at shipping clock speeds it should be fairly similar. OC'ing results and the available memory bandwidth and framebuffer size are all obviously very different.

This is still a great buy at that price.

$105 AR, not bad for 900 MHz core / 950 MHz memory <65C load with FurMark bench@4302 98-FPS max stable. Not too shabby for a 25% stable overclock. Purchased on 1/28. Still excellent deal@$115. One Happy Camper. Thanks OP!

Got it installed and OCed, ended up not getting the rivatuner mod to work, had to use MSI overdrive, but at least it does 910-975 with ease 🙂
