Numba 1.. I assume the Win2K drivers are pretty good, because of all the rave reviews by Wingznut etc?
2.. Do the drivers support 4-speaker stereo doubling(same sound on both front and back speakers)?

Like it or not, you are going to hear from me again. ;)

1) Yes, the Win2k drivers are flawless.

2) Yes, I believe the sound is exactly the same, front to rear. The rears are a smidge quieter, though. This is what I hear, but keep in mind that I'm no audiophile.

Win2K drivers being flawless? Not exactly. Since I installed the SC I am unable to perform CHKDSK on my Windows 2000 NTFS drive. Halfway through the CHKDSK I get a BSOD quoting the device driver file for the sound card.

Since I have not yet had the expressive need to deliberately run CHKDSK on my Win2K drive (I can go into Win98 and use Norton Disk Doctor on my FAT32 C: and MP3 drive) this hasn't really affected me yet. But eventually I will need to run chkdsk, so I'll have to figure out how to get around this problem...

I'll have to take your word for it, as I've never run chkdsk.

Or is that the same as scandisk?

Love mine since last summer no problems for me in win2k, and the speakers are quieter in the rear for gaming based on what is going on in the background. But they will be silent unless noise reflects and inflicts some sort of percushion. But in music the rear sounds like the front to me. atleast on these lame ass klipsch Promedias, can't wait to get rid of them:disgust:

hehe.
Thanks guys.
Along the same vein, I plan to pick up a set of BA4800s. The extra 2 speakers don't matter to me, but the extra SQ over my Midiland S4/4060s does. Are there any 2.1s at the BA4800 price point or less that will overtake them in SQ?

Imho, there's no better speakers for the price... Period. :)

Either just put the rear speakers on the desktop (which is what I did), or just don't use them at all. Or... Send them to me! :D

No, those 4800s will be the best bet...you could spend an extra $50 or so and get the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1s but I don't like those--the bass is halfed from the 4.1 family of ProMedias.

I was considering those..just like I was considering the Herc GTXP, when I realized I had to buy Anarchy Online in a week :)
