I got the boxed version under the tree this evening and I was wondering if the preapplied thermal paste on the boxed cpu cooler is good enough, or do I need to scrape it off and apply something else?

merry christmas!

I wouldnt go through the hasel of removing the stock heat pad.
my 3200+ temp hasnt risen past 40C on the stock Heatsink/themal paste.

the stock stuff looked pretty good when i first got mine, but my dad grabbed it by the bottom and pulled off a big chuck out of the very middle:roll:, so it was AS5 for me 🙁. It appeared to be silver based so it should be 100% fine.

If going stock or small OC, leave it there.

Otherwise, you should put better compound. The AS5 is very good. I have 34º idle and 49º at full on 2600.
