"sansui" TVs?

my friend is looking for a TV and he found this one in the classifieds that's a "Sansui" brand. he wants to get it because he's a tightwad and it's cheap, but I strongly advised him against it. I can't find much info at all about it online

have you ever even heard of this brand? if so do you know anything about them?

I have a Sansui 13" right next to my monitor... it's worked great for the past 4 years. Very reliable so far.

They made great hi end electronics in the late 70's to about the mid 80's then something happened..I've got some of their old hi end stuff..a classic B2101 power amp..AU717 amp and a few AU series tuners..

I have a Sansui 13'' TV and it works fine! I would say its equal quality to my 13'' Sharp (but the sharp sounds a lot better lol).

Hmm, Interesting.

This is the 2nd time I've ever seen, or heard the name Sansui..

I bought a 300$ desktop stereo system of theirs in ~94. Got it from Fred Meyer. It had awesome features, and good sound.

The backlights burned or went out after about a year. It wasn't really a big deal.

The 3-disc CD changer stopped working after about 5 years. That's when I switched to MP3s, so it didn't matter to me. 😉

The whole unit finally completely died about a year ago. When you turn it on, it has this horrible, loud, BZZZERGZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, regardless of volume level or input selection.

I guess I never really thought about it, but it probably should've lasted a lot longer than 9 years if it was HQ, huh?

My dad and his friend had one of those sound systems... there was this equalizer that adjusted itself according to how it was sounding in the room... 😕 i think i broke that one when i was 3... 😱

I've got a Sansui record player circa 80's and it was top of the line for its time. I think they used to make excellent stuff. Don't know if they still do. They seem to have lost their high-end status.
