ok here is the thing, we bought SAN technology from DELL, yes DELL, they didn;t provide us much of documentation and screwed us. We asked them, they said they can send in a tech to install it for us for $10,000. and that is the reason i guess i can't find any documentation to install SANS, anyone care to help me find DELL SANS documentation. thanx.

not trying to be funny, just figured that's the best place for info. It took me about 30 seconds to find all kinds of stuff on dell's SAN offerings.

Any kind of SAN is not going to be cheap. Insist that you be given proper documentation or tell them you're returning the gear.

Just what all did you buy? Array and a fiberchannel switch?

I agree 100% with Spidey - SANS are incredibly useful and give awesome performance if they are done right. Their big strength is the ability to share storage space among multiple computers. They are especially critical in clustered server configurations.

If your company bought one, chances are you bought it for a reason. Are you doing clustering? Do you have applications which need huge amounts of storage? Do you need to have one hard drive accessable from multiple computers?

Dell actually makes very good SAN equipment. Actually, let me rephrase that. They SELL very good equipment. Most of their SAN gear is rebadged (No plextor jokes, please) from other companies. I know a lot of places that have put in Dell SANS and have been very happy with them.

ok this is my problem, i have 3 LUNS, and 2 servers for SAN, i assigned server 1 to LUN 0, and server 2 to LUN 1 and 2. LUN 1 and 2 are daisy chained. but when i browse server 1 i am able to see LUN 1 and 2, that should't happen, becasue if my server goes down, that means it will take LUN 1 and 2 down, which means it will also take down server 2 down. if you guyz find any links with documentation let me know.
