If not ocing then i5 2400/2500 would be fine.

Well, the one thing I'm wondering is how easy is to to OC them? I've never liked OCing much, because I've just never been that good at it. Raising the FSB.. getting good voltages and all that stuff. In other words, whenever I've performed a decent OC, my system is never stable.

But the K models have an unlocked multiplier, right?

Still not sure it's the biggest deal since I usually just rely on Turbo Boost to OC me during games and it does a decent job.

You change only voltage and multiplier with sandy bridge, it is amazingly and beautifully easy, 4.5ghz on stock HSF kind of easy.

Purchased a i5 2500k and a ASUS P8P67 Pro mobo this afternoon at Fry's - Wilsonville. I had the rest of the parts already purchased (a system for my dad). Just finished putting it together and installing windows about an hour ago. So far, it looks really sweet. The build was pretty easy, really similar to a 1156 build.

Haven't tried overclocking yet - I'm beat that's for another day.

they were selling sb at central computer yesterday, and they werent exactly crowded with anandtechers rushing to get one. in fact in the twenty minutes i was there they didnt sell a single one! its looks like sb is destined to be a huge flop....

I will take this anecdotal evidence and.......do nothing with it.

So I noticed that amongst the listed models, the i7-2600S wasn't listed. Has anyone had any luck finding one available so far, or otherwise know of why Newegg and others haven't seemed to have posted it? I was planning on using it in my system rebuild but so far have only seen the standard 2600 and the 2600K. :(

If you check the first post again at the bottom is a link to the 2600S it is the only one i could find, there could be others out there tho, and it is on a UK site, so no idea about shipping, not to mention it is out of stock anyway. From intel's site it only lists the OEM product code, CM8062300835604, I gather that this is not going to hit retail, at least not right now. You might still be able to find it retail. But it may take you awhile.

Thanks for checking! Yeah, I remember reading on AT and elsewhere that the 65W parts were aimed more at the OEM crowd, but when I saw Newegg have the 2400S, I was hopeful that the 2600S would be coming too. Given they don't have the 2500S either, yeah, probably OEM-only :(
