Sandisk Ultra II 256MB $36.14 AR @ amazon

Looks like the price is $54.99 now. Is the MIR period over? If so, surely they'll have a similar deal soon. I missed out and really wanted a bigger and faster CF than my Viking 128MB since it takes my Canon G2 too long to transfer to the CF after taking the pic. Will the higher speed CF speed this up, and can the G2 take advantage of it?

The regular Sandisk CF is only up to 1MB/s, but for the Ultra, Amazon says:
"Ultra fast up to 9 Mb/sec data transfer rate"
and
"Highest transfer rate for Copy / Download; up to 2.8 MB/second"
So what speed is it?

Viking says my 128MB (910TS128CF - CF62746) is 16x, and their CF256M that's ~$30 is a standard grade at 8x. So I need one faster than 16x (if that will help, as I asked above).

Awesome card - I have one already
sorry the deal is out - i am looking for some more at a good price
buy.com has it for 49.99 free ship here

that is the 256 MB
the 512 MG i think is 140 and the 1 GIG is 199.

hope it helps a little

It really depends on the camera. I have the Canon G5 and I use the Ultra II 256mb card and I haven't noticed any speed problems. I can say that when I plug the card into my USB 2.0 reader that it FLYS loading the pics to my PC.

I don't know if amazon usually does this sort of thing or not, but a few days ago they raised the price of the card by like $4 and then didn't link to the rebate or even list it in the price. Seemed kind of wierd to me.

Your G5 is faster than the G2. Have you tried slower cards in it to see if there's a difference in time it takes the camera to write to the card?

Thanks. It doesn't really tell anything I didn't know...that different CF speeds make a difference. 🙂 I just need to know if it will on my G2. ie. if the slowdown is with the camera processing, or the writing to my slower CF card. Guess I need to try a Canon forum to find someone who's done the same thing.

I made a test on a Nikon Coolpix 5700 (5 Megapixel camera) and ran a test with a Viking Card - I used the raw format to get the biggest picture. The card was a 256 Megabite card, I cannot remember the size it created, my concern was the speed and I clock it with my friend at 40 seconds. I then turn off the camera change the card to the Ultra II and same setting (checked before taking the pic) i a raw format again, and it took almost 20 seconds for the same image (we use a tripod to take the same picture)
It makes a difference on cameras which have large magapixels. I tried it on a 3 megapixel camera, a older card takes almost 2 seconds more to take some shots, the ultra II is ready almost right away to take the next pic (batterie strength and the speed of the camera itself have a huge effect, but this card will not be the slow part.

Higly recommed it and I am looking for another one.
