Hello, I just got a sandisk micro cruzer and when I plug it into my front USB ports it won't work but it works when I plug it in the back. I have tried other usb items and they all work fine in the front. Any ideas?

I have to remove mine from any USB ports for my system to finish loading Windows after a reboot. 🙁
My little Verbatim drive never did that.

The Cruzer does it with Windows 2000 as well as XP Pro. Buyer Beware!

The Cruzers seem a little odd about the way they operate.

i've been looking at buying the micro since it was onsale at staples. so lately i've been researching the drive. from what i read the front usb ports don't supply enough power sometimes and the top left port on the back supplies the most power. regarding the reboot issue, i haven't heard anything. i don't think i want the micro anymore, hehe. i wonder if the sandisk mini has the same problems.

I just got a micro cruzer 256MB for Christmas and it was working fine on my ThinkPad, but it is not working on the front ports on my Chenming case. All other devices have worked on these front ports, and it still works on my laptop. WTF!

Check the wiring for the USB headers that connect the front USB ports to the motherboard. I experienced something similar, and it turned out that the wiring in the case had an extra ground wire going to a header (pin 10 i believe) on the board that the motherboard didn't support. Not saying its the solution, but it something to consider.

I've probably got a similar case, I have a feeling it has to do with the actual cable itself chenming uses in its cases and that it can't handle the micro. I checked my wiring and its fine.

Never had a problem with my 256MB Cruzer Micro on any USB port it's been in (and it gets around... like a record!)

Some cases had problems with USB 2.0 devices and front ports. Antec had this problem and shipped replacement ports for cases even though the existing ones already said USB 2.0.

I've been told that some usb pens dont work because of the fact that the ones on the front of cases are usualy run off some sort of hub that splits the power up between the two ports on the front of the case and that reduces the power level enough so certain usb pen drives arent reconized. The ports soldered onto the motherboard in back usualy have there own dedicated power instead of spliting the signal up. This hapens on macs too aparently when you try and plug a usb drive into a keyboard or other peripherals. So I found its usualy best to plug your usb drives into the back of the system athough that might be kind of a pain in the ass at times.

My Sandisk Micro Cruzer 512 works fine on the USB ports on the top of my case. If it is a fresh install of Windows XP, I would have to reboot after plugging in my flash drive. After that, the flash drive is always recognized.

If the back ports work with the San Disk (I'm assuming usb2) and the front ports do not, check that there are only 8 wires to the front port at the motherboard header. If there are 9 wires Usb 1.1 will work, but usb 2.0 will not.

Common with many front panel conections. (My son had exactly this problem) Clip the extra wire.

Check fix on the MSI support site for pictures and confirmation. http://msihq.designlab.info/th...14fc2c2767c0ae7&page=1
