The PC Card Adapter turns a CompactFlash card into a PC Card, plug and play compatible with any device equipped with a PC Card slot.

This would be great for transferring digital pictures from camera to laptop for only $9.99 do store pick-up and avoid shipping charges.

Somthing else to consider it that with this adapter you can most likely swap a compact flash wireless card between your Windows CE handheld (Dell Axim) and your regular notebook computer.

PCMCIA and CompactFlash are electrically very similar so the converter does not have to do much. It's not too unusual to find such a converter for $5-10.

Other flash format converters can be quite costly because they need additional controller chips.

Buy.com has one for $7 but it's back ordered.

Whoa! That's a pretty cool adapter. Maybe the deal's not that HOT; but it sure is for peeps who didn't even realize that these existed.

I got one of the $7.99 versions at compusa awhile back. I works great for picture downloading onto the laptop or data transfer duties.

actually, I saw a USB CF card "slot key" adapter at Fry's a few days ago. It is around 10 dollars but you can use it at any computer with USB port. I think it has better usability than the PC card Adapter.

There also exists the reverse: an adaptor that turns a PCMCIA card to a CompactFlash card for use with palmtops with CompactFlash slots. It'll stick out quite a bit though, and not all devices support it.
The Axim is listed as compatible though.

Here's the best deal I think. $8 for a CF/SmartMedia USB reader with a CF PC Card. I have one myself and it works perfectly with Win XP. :D

BobSnob, just a FYI, that reader is not "mass storage" compliant and needs a driver, even under XP.

bliab, that was an interesting info, I was looking for one of those, thx.

kimagurealex, do you have some more info on the "USB CF card "slot key" adapter at Fry's " ?

The USB device needs a driver, yes, but the PC Card, if used in a Windows XP PCMCIA slot, doesn't.
