Amazon has the SanDisk 256MB CF card for $93.99 here. There's a $20 rebate from Sandisk available on the item page making it $73.99 in the end. A pdf version is also available from the Sandisk website here.

Taken from us's post below: Amazon also has the Viking 256MB CF card for $72.21 after a $25 MIR here.

Wow, that's $2.00 less than the last 256MB Hot Deal I got in on @ Amazon about 1mo ago. I think it was simpletech brand. Damn-- It's NEVER the right time to buy! ;)

Seriously, good deal for 256MB. SanDisk not the fastest but storage is storage. Thanks for the heads up.

I saw some site that said the sandisk is horrible in speed for both read/write and latency. Why not just get the Viking 256MB for 72.21 after $25 rebate at amazon?

Does this work with the Canon A40?
I ask because I bought the Simpletech 512MB COMPACT FLASH memory from buy.com and the memory was to big for my camera to fit it into the slot. I even asked the Buy.com representative and they said it would fit fine but it didn?t. The memory was to thick for the compact flash slot in my Canon A40.

A40 only takes CF Type I card. STI-CF/512 is Type II card. The sandisk and viking CFs mentioned in the first post are Type I cards.

Actually the STI-CF/512 he linked to should be a Type I card as well, at least according to both Buy.com's description and Simpletech.com's website. It's the STI-CF/512T2 that is Type II. Strange why it wouldn't work, are you sure you bought the STI-CF/512 and not the T2?

Boogak was too fast for me -

According to the Simpletech page, the Buy.com model is a Type I CF.

Simpletech CF page

eCost has the Lexar 256MB 12X CF for $98 with a $20 MIR

eCost Lexar 256MB 24x Professional CompactFlash card, Type I - $128

eCost Kingston 256MB CompactFlash card was $77.99 but jumped up to $86.99

In general, the prices on CF have been dropping. I've been waiting for a good deal on a 512MB and not fitting into a camera is a definite concern, as are the old stories about rebate problems with some companies.

512MB COMPACT FLASH TYPE I STI-CF/512 on the page I linked you guys to was a Type I Card, not Type II. I am 100% sure the card doesnt fit because the Compact flash card is to think for the slot (hole) that is in the Canon A40. I have sent it to buy.com to be returned already.

Here's the spot..............

Amazon is selling two identical SANDISK 256mb CF Cards. But each has its own ASIN#

The $93.99 one has ASIN# B00006B9QE
The $85.69 one has ASIN# B00005ICE1

From looking at the two pics....I couldn't tell the diff'

If the rebate also works on the cheaper one.....that brings the price AR down from $73.99 to $65.69

I might be wrong.....any idea?

Can someone please PM me with the $5 off Amazon coupon? I'm want to get a 256MB Viking card for my sister for Christmas... I have the same card for my S300 and it works great. I can't wait for the 512MB cards to drop below $100 :D

For future reference... anyone know a good site to look for those hard-to-find coupons? Thanks in advance!

Sandisk has 2 types of CF cards, regular and Ultra. Ultra card is faster and thus more expensive. Ultra card usually has 30% or more
premium than regular card. So, I am not sure if the expensive one on amazon is Ultra card--it's only $9 more expensive.

According to simpletech's FAQ, the only 512M CF they have is of Type II.

you guys should really read the comparisons on speed for the sandisk vs the viking cards. At the same price it is a pretty obvious choice to me to get the viking.

Yep, if prices are close, go with Viking. Got a 128MB and 256MB of Viking and both are faster than the 32MB Sandisk I picked up free AR on an add-on deal.

I am only seeing a $10 rebate on the viking 256mb card? Is the $25 rebate expired?

Also, does anyone know if the viking rebates are valid at other retailers? Because I am thinking of getting a couple of 128mb cards, and I think I can get the price lower with coupons from staples or somewhere else.
