Oh you can never be my bud Morphy. Did you happen to hear what nvidia is launching?
Or do you have your nose buried so deep in ATI's digestional tract to see what's brewing around you? I told you that for every move ATI makes, Nvidia already has a smackdown move ready to go at all times.

And yes it is obvious that if you can crank a 16 pipe card to high enough clockspeeds along with 1.5 GHz 512MB of memory, it can compete with higher piped cards. Kind of like what Nvidia did with the 5900 against the 9xxx series. 4 pipes against 8 pipes respectively.

Anyway, start readin up "bud". You're not gonna like it. Of this I am pleasantly sure.

m0rph, serisously stop the trolling. Yes, you. You are a troll.

I agree with orangat though. How can you people take this as gospel from Sassen when you did not take his previous benchmark as so?

Well even though I made a joke out of his benchmarks by putting up a parody webpage, I still think his benchmarks weren't too far from reality. As he noted, ATi updated the clock speed and has tweaked the drivers and it should give it a marginal lead over a GTX. BTW wouldn't it be hilarious if my mock benchmarks turned out to be accurate?

The point is, we need an inustry insider who will actually tell us interesting new info that we didn't know about already. Not someone who just chimes in after the fact and says 'yeah, I knew that'.

I vote we fire Ronin as our resident industry insider.

Naw, we need all the insider informants we can get, no matter how encrypted the info we get is. Ronin comes off as an nVfan most of the time, but at least he dosnt start fanboy flamebit threads like some of the other insider wannabe wishiwuzzers around here.

3Dmark scores posted by the Inquirer seem to confirm that X1800XT will be the higher performing part. Nvidia is frantically trying to get out new drivers, pulling out every IQ optimization hack they can come up with. It's all coming together now. You can't deny the inevitable any more.

....

HAHAHAHAAHAH

My preference doesn't need to come into play, but nVidia doesn't need to scramble. Why? Because those with 7800's are likely not going to switch.

ATi's biggest concern? Product at launch. They've already paper launched Crossfire, after telling websites, and vendors, they wouldn't.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm all for ATi coming out with a solid product, en mass, because it keeps the competition healthy. I run what's fastest in my personal boxes, bar none. For AGP, that meant the X850 XT PE. I made no qualms about it (and I have a 6800UE from eVGA, too). IF the X1800 is the fastest card available, with a fair margin, then I'll be happy to run it, but I'd like to SEE the card first. 😉

The inevitable paper launch. The inevitable disappointment. The inevitable crappy drivers. The inevitable "limited availability". The inevitable higher cost. No one is denying it.

I love how bad benchmarks are fake and good benchmarks are gospel.

Yeah tell me about it. Ronin comes in here 'confirming' something that has just been posted by the Inquirer. How bout telling us about it before the Inquirer does if you want some credibility here.

his sorry excuse is NDA . . . he just posts useless bits of info and expects us to be impressed . . . . if somehow you're not impressed, he attacks you. :Q

Turn on your brain. Key words "it was". Meaning, the 7800GTX was already released at the time Ronin said this, and the power of 3 already made public before Ronin mentioned it. What he is saying there was to someone who didn't believe Ronin had any privvy information. Ronin offered examples of how he could prove it.
Two words: Keep out. I wasnt even discussing with you but like always you feel the need to butt in and try to put me down. Gee ..

As always keys is finally here. Maybe he's pissed off at the latest developments that he needs to start attacking members instead of his favorite: ATI. *yawn*

Attention Nvidia fanboys: Your hero is now conceding that the X1800XT will outperform 7800GTX. Watcha gonna do now? Jump off a bridge?

Wow, WTF is your problem?
First: He's not backpedalling. He is reporting off the information that is given to him. Those early benchmarks were done on preproduction hardware and drivers - he said that back then, and he's saying it again. Why can't anyone comprehend that when he says something like that, it means it's not indicitive of final performance? I'm sure if early benchmarks were released of any other piece of performance hardware, it would show lower performance than when it comes out.

Second: This guy shouldn't be anyone's hero.. if any internet hardware reviewer is a hero to you, you need to look at your life..

Third: if it outperforms the 7800gtx and is actually worth spending the money to switch, I'm sure people will. It sure wouldn't be worth it to spend another $500 on a new ATI card to get 200fps in CS:S instead of 160fps for me. No one is going to see the difference. But if it could get greater than 60fps constantly in something like FEAR with everything cranked up while it's hardly playable on a 7800gt, and if the card is priced decently, sure, I'd switch.

And why are you jumping? So what if said that? Are you a fanboy?

Did I say I was jumping to ATI? The cards aren't even out yet! There are still no official benchmarks yet! Therefor, none of us, save perhaps some silent folks who might be under NDA and aren't letting out a peep, know how they perform. Maybe your reading comprehension really sucks, or I wouldn't have to be saying all this again.

And I'm sick of the word fanboy.. good god what a overused word here. If anyone likes anything, they must be a fanboy. I'll tell you what I'm a fanboy of: value and performance. That's why I have an AMD chip. That's why I currently have a 7800gt, because currently it is the best bang for the buck. You can't argue you can do any better for $334.

Best bang for the buck is a $334 card? That's a high end card with a high end price. The best bang for the buck card on the market right now is less than 1/2 that amount. Of course that depends on what you define 'bang for the buck' as meaning. If you mean spending more gets you more then yah I guess you're assessment is correct. 😛

So are you saying that the only way Ati can keep pace is through missing textures? No I think this is a different time, with different technologies. Also I think the community will be watching drivers from both companies very closely here. At least they will be watching each other closely.

edit: I love how the "my 9700 has crappy drivers and the 5900 line is so much nicer" crowd - now are pointing to it as the example of the mistake Ati is making.

Gee and the Nvidia fanclub thought Sassen would be crucified if the benchmarks were wrong. 😀

A little while back I outlined why it was wrong to counter-attack nvidia as a defense to ATi. You have both done this here, though you will claim otherwise. This wasn't even even a counter-attack, it was worse. At the least it was a pre-emptive counter, since not a single person in this thread has said that the X1800XT was a lousy performer. At the worst, it was trolling.

I'm excited as the next person. I cannot wait for 10/05. However, my first response will be this: How will these cards help me. You two seem to have another mindset: "How will these cards prove I'm right and those 'nvidia guys' wrong?" It is this mindset that has ruined this forum, and you are as guilty as anyone else. You are not helping anyone. Nothing good is coming from what either of you say.

I can sum up your posts with this:

haha@nvidia

Ronin, a while back everyone was curious as to what exactly Power of 3 was. Though it turned out to be rather rediculous marketing crap... you were right on, then.

Many of us expected 7600 or some other new cards. When you confirmed what it really was, I was grateful.
