San Francisco Bay Area job hunt

Hello everyone! I'm senior in Computer Engineering from Kansas and graduating in May. I'm considering looking for a job in the SF bay area, but don't really know where to start. I have pretty good experience, and a decent gpa. I was wondering if any of you out there know of some companies (I know that there are 1000s) that you have experience with. I'm kind of a large company corporate kind of guy. My emphasis is in Networking and Multimedia, but I think I like the embedded systems stuff better. I'm willing to do about anything. I'm not looking for an exact job or anything, but I think I'm going to be out in the bay area for thanksgiving, so I would like to contact at least a few companies to view/tour or something. I certainly appreciate any help at all! Thanks!
 
wouldn't it be easier to ask your career center and go to career fairs and meet companies on campus
 
well, pretty much all of the companies that come to my campus are midwest area, and I really don't want to stay in the midwest. I was hoping that some one from SF would have some advice.
