Earthquakes have occurred since it's creation and the the island is still there. Without looking at the development plans, I'm sure that part of the plan would be to shore up the ground. There are many places built on landfill(ie. much of Boston).

The island was created in 1937. The strongest earthquake since that time was a 7.7 in 1952.

I'm sure there are people here who better understand logarithmic scales than I do and can go over the difference between a 7.7 and an 8.5+, and the Bay Area is overdue for a big one right now.

There was no 52' quake Kern county is on the SoCal side of the state. The big ones here were 1902 and 1989. We also have 3 faults. The east bay one (Hayward Fault) is the big overdue one.

Yeah, its roughly 10 times as powerful for each step up in the scale making the recent Japanese quake 100 times more powerful. Since the 1960s Great Chilean earthquake registered 9.5 there has also been a noted trend in such devastating earthquakes worldwide. It certainly doesn't seem like a good time to building in extremely questionable areas.

No, it's not Frisco, it's San Francisco or the City. Only Hells Angels call it Frisco, and I'm not going to argue with them about it.
I'm disappointed they didn't go with my plan for a couple of giant casinos, a few hotels, and a nice amusement park for kids. Let's kill off the parasites in Nevada once and for all.

Wow

Frisco is going nuts lately eh?

This was voted in by the people so it must be OK.

4-24-2011San Fran Police enforce ban on sidewalk sitting

San Francisco voters approved Measure L which prohibits sitting or lying on sidewalks between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.

Merchants, especially in the once hippie-crazed Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, led the charge, complaining about overbearing young transients blocking patrons with aggressively panhandling, sometimes with big dogs at their sides.

Bruce Wolfe, vice president of the Haight Ashbury Neighborhood Council, said the sit-lie law simply won't work. He still believes the ordinance is unconstitutional.

"It seems a little bit overextended, overreaching. To make everybody have to be on their two feet moving and walking seems very odd for a city to demand," Wolfe said. "That it would have this huge drastic effect on changing the social landscape of the city, I just don't see it."

The real question remains: Will Dave ever fix the title of this thread?
