San Diego's Chicken Shack - I <3 Chicken Wings

holy fuck this place is good! Dunno how I'd never heard of it, Yelp only has 3 reviews of it. Some of the most mouth watering delicious wings I've ever had. Fried to a crisp and still very tender and juice inside. Also ginormous, I'm scared to see what kinda chickens they get these from. French Fries were also very decent, and a huge amount for $2. It's on Imperial, in what some consider to be a very bad part of town. I guess the corner it's on is nick named "the four corners of death" I didn't sweat it, but I'm sure some people will be wary there. Close to the Lincoln Park area, which isn't a good neighborhood at all. Worst parking lot ever, it's tiny as shit and next to impossible to get out of, I ended up cutting down the side and threw some muddy dirt alley. This is probably a place people get executed late at night, maybe how the place got it's name? lol. If you have an SUV don't even bother trying to get in the parking lot.

It's a hole in the wall, literally, they have about 5 stools and a small counter you can eat on. Doubtful more than 10 people total could be in there without it being over crowded. Wings are reasonably priced, especially for how large they are. We got 20 regular and 10 Salt N Pepper + fries and I think the total was about $22. Seems expensive maybe but they have a ton of meat on them. The S-N-P wings were good, they have some crushed red pepper flakes mixed in the coating. Catfish is supposed to be great too, but I haven't tried it. They have a few sides - Potato Salad & uhh I dunno didn't get any sides. Also have chicken bites, strips & gizzards. I've had the bites and they're good. Not nuggets, real chicken. A basket of that + fries is $6.70. They have a chicken and a fish sandwich too. Anyone in SD who's close to that area should try this place out.

FUCK this is some good chicken! lol

ill go next week. seriously. but yeah, thats a shithole neighborhood.

I don't go for the sights or to hang out. I get off the 805, I pull in, order my food and get the fuck out. The price and quality makes the area a non issue to me. Bad area? Maybe, delicious food? definitely.

Damn, too far from me. I live in North County and work near Miramar.

I wish we had a Yardhouse nearby, they also have great chicken wings.

Never had their wings, humm are they breaded or just fried? I might have to try them out I have a Yardhouse somewhere around here.

Wings are an exteremely overrated snack food in my opinion. The meat-to-bone ratio is not good, they are messy, and are really not very satisfying at all. Too much work for a sup-par payoff.

These are like mini fried chickens, no sauce on them. And the meat to bone ratio is pretty insane, the drumetts looked like Mutton chops. I ate 5 + some fries and I was full. And I can eat a lot.

not a pic from there, but the middle one is how all the drumetts looked. They were bulging like crazy.

Then you have never had that holy grail of wing before. Once you wrap your lips around the thick, saucy, succulent meat you'll understand why you were blessed with taste buds.

I think they are just fried but I could be wrong. They're freaking good I know that.

There is one in downtown San Diego and I know there is one in Long Beach (I think there are a few more scattered throughout the Los Angeles area as well). There is also one in Palm Springs so everytime I go there I get their chicken wings.

I'm going to have to go, I like em both ways. I live in SD & Riverside I sorta go back and forth every month. I know where the one Riverside is. I know they got a crazy selection of beers there. Wings + Beer = Awesome Sauce.

Those do look meatier, so at least they appear a bit better than typical wings. Unfortunately those look like they are breaded, which I hate.

I spend way too much money at Yardhouse for my own good. I've got two of them within 10 miles 🙂

This thread reminded me of a place I used to buy fried chicken at when I lived in Pensacola, FL. On the weekend I would usually ride out to the beach and stop by a place called General Dolphins Crispy Chick in Gulf Breeze. They had the best fried chicken in the world. I'd grab an 8 piece and eat part of it at the beach and have the rest later at home. I almost feel sorry for those of you outside of the South that think you have had good fried chicken. Sadly this place sold out later and became a Taco Bell.
