chula-juana ? id be looking more towards the east county (lakeside, el cajon). its a bit of a commute, but its going to be cheaper than closer-to-the-shore inland. you can always do the ultimate commute though and live in temecula. its a lot cheaper, but waking up 3 hours before your shift isnt exactly glorious.

if you do decide on chula vista... if you see a street called 'highland', stop at tacos el gordo, get some carne asada tacos quickly, then get the hell outta there. fast. trust me on this one.

Santee is out in the middle of nowhere. I would rather live in Chula Vista than there for sure.

also, my friend's friend lives in Rancho Bernado, its like 20 miles up north from SD, and it is a pretty nice and VERY new area. Not sure about housing price but the family that lives there claimed "it is much cheaper and nicer than anywhere in San Diego."
