I bought San Andreas yesterday for the PC. I installed it, played it fine. But when I woke up today & tried playing the game, it wouldn't execute the game. When I double click the exe file it seems to partially execute the game because my harddrive lights light up for like 5 seconds then stops.

I check the processes running but it never loaded the game. I don't understand why it wont work. Here's some info about my machine.

Athlon 64 3200+ (OC 2.4 ghz) | ASUS K8V SE Deluxe Mobo | Radeon 9800 Pro (newestst 5.6 drivers | 1 gig DDR 3200 Corsair XMS | Win XP Pro SP2 |

Here's my DX Diag text file >> http://www.geocities.com/omegasconnection/DxDiag.txt

Any ideas??

you tried rebooting?

I've had this problem once or twice before - seems random. Try reinstalling the game.

funny. i was playing San Andreas last night and took a screenshot with the Print Screen button. I hit ALT Tab to get out of SA and go to paint, and when i clicked the Paint icon, the hourglass appeared and then disappeared and Paint didnt come up.

Hours later, AFTER i quit GTA SA, 3 paint windows popped up.

hmm, i'm thinking....

OOhh, this is just an idea, and you'll need to research, but i just remembered stumbling on this feature of -i think- windows XP service pack 2, that prevents programs ffrom using each other's resources. Data Execution Prevention (DEP).

This is a TOTAL stab in the dark, but i just read something about this over the weekend - MAYBE turning it off will help you run GTA. Try it.
