Samtron 96P problem: sudden screen resolution switch

Hi there,

I have a Samtron 96P cathode-ray computer monitor which has developed a problem lately. Often, when I start a movie in Winamp or Mediaplayer, or just open a word-doc, the monitor screen resolution switches away from my usual 1280x1024. Suddenly, I'm at a low resolution, 450x300 or something like that.

The only way to solve it is to go into the "Control Panel/Display/Settings". In there, the resolution still appears as 1280x1024, but I then just move up one step in resolution, apply, and then move down to 1280x1024, apply, and I'm back at my usual resolution.

This happens very often, and is of course extremely annoying. I wonder if anybody out there have an idea what is wrong?

Thanks!

No, I'm not sure where the problem comes from. I unfortunately don't have another monitor or computer I can try... - When the change occurs, there's a pling-sound coming from the monitor and a slight shake of the image, just as when I change resolution "willingly".
