Speaking of monitors, Best Buy currently has the Samtron (Samsung) 75E or 75V 17" monitor for $179.99. Subtract the $50 mail-in rebate and you've got a 17" monitor for $129.99 (plus tax).

I originally bought the 75V and returned it immediately. The picture quality was, well, *terrible.* Out of focus & "bruised" corners (which degaussing would not fix). I returned it and got the 75E. IMMACULATE!!!!!! I am using it right now in fact. Perfect focus, excellent shape (no "odd shaped corners"). I couldn't be happier (and trust me, I am extremely critical when it comes to things...especially monitors). So those who may say "Samsung is Suck," well..this monitor rocks for the price!

The 75E & 75V are identical (they even use the same driver). The only difference is the 75E is made in Korea and the 75V is made in Mexico.

You be the judge on what that means...I'd just have to say that if you can, buy the 75E. The Best Buy in my area had an equal shipment of both.

Happy hunting!

In the ad for BestBuy it says the dot pitch is .28mm for both the 75E and 75V but on samtron's webpage it says the dot pitch is .24mm so which dotpitch is it? If it is .24mm I will probaly buy this monitor as I am badly in need of one to replace my (ancient) packard bell 15 inch monitor. One more thing does anyone know if this is a flat screen or a regular curved monitor.

Thanks,
TonyG

I just bought this monitor yesterday. I was going to buy a 15inch only, because I hate spending money on a 17inch. This was the best buy I have ever made on a monitor. It is only .28 @ 1280X1024... but sitting next to a .26 @ 1600X1200... I can't see any difference. And for only $130, I don't really give a flying #&@*. The BestBuy I went to only honored the 75V, and the 75E was more expensive. Mexico or Korea are both suck, so I dont favor one over the other. I suggest this monitor to everyone. Great buy for the price. Hurry though!!! Offer ends soon.

TonyG,

The .28mm is the standard dot pitch. The .24mm is the "horizontal" dot pitch. The "horizontal" dot pitch is the equivalent measurement to the Trinitron tubes.

Glad I picked up the ViewSonic E771 flat CRT 17" monitor for $159.96 from Mobshop.com a few months ago when the 20% off coupons were plentiful, beautiful monitor for the money!
