If two manufacturers sells half of the smartphone is a duopoly to you, then yes. I disagree.
If you look at high-end devices, I'm sure that the situation looks a bit different (probably more dominated by Apple and Samsung), but smartphones overall?
Either the analysts are wrong or Samsung did something completely unnatural in a market that is expanding rapidly...
Apple needs to strike back, since Samsung is stealing their sexiness lol.. In serious, the next iPhone needs to be a big hit, not just a marginal upgrade like the 4S was. It's needed to put the focus on Apple again.
Tadaaaaa

*tumbleweeds rolling*
Samsung is succeeding due to good build quality and excellent marketing. It's no surprise they are were they are now.

I think the HTC One X is a sexier device that all of the above. It'll be a big hit for sure.
Honestly I don't see how people think the SGS3 is a sexy device. Its all plastic and the rounded corners are fat. If the iPhone5 posted above is real, I think that's a sexier device. Almost no plastic, all glass, brushed metal, and a gunmetal steel band.
They also apparently sold off their spinning hard disk division to Seagate for ~$1.4 billion, but they only received half of that in cash. Kind of a bummer there for me personally, since I've been buying Samsung branded HDDs for a while now because they've been more reliable for me than other brands. Might also explain why they've been priced so low.
"Plasticky" usually means more durable and lighter. These are good things with phones. No way in hell would I buy a phone with glass on both side.
Apple and Samsung are not in a zero-sum game. Why do you assume a Note 2 would have any substantial effect on Apple's sales? IMO, iPhone and Note are so far from each other in form factor and feature set that someone who would like to buy a Note 2 will not buy an iPhone anyway - they'll go for the original Note, or possibly GIII or Nexus if they don't care about the stylus.Looking forward to seeing the Q3 results. The GSIII was just the first part of samsung's 1,2 punch, with the Note 2 coming in around August. Apple just can't catch a break
Normal wear and tear? Apple's aluminum and glass are prone to dings, dents, scruffs and scratches as much (or more so) than plastic is. The reason you think plastic is bad is because Apple used notoriously shitty plastic on their Macbooks. Good luck finding one that doesn't have cracked hinges, cracked palm rests, scuffs and scratches all over the outer shell, etc.Plastics are great for drops, but not for normal wear/tear.

I never owned a plastic macbook because they are shitty. I owned a Dell laptop, which was plastic. That did not hold up to normal wear/tear at all. Same with my HTC diamond, all plastic shit.
