Samsung’s Memory Business Alone Is Now More Profitable Than Amazon, Meta, And Microsoft, Quietly Becoming One of the Biggest Winners of the AI Race

Samsung's DRAM Business Alone Has Managed To Achieve $37 Billion In Q1, And The Growth Won't Stop Here

DRAM has become a commodity in the AI industry, in high demand, and suppliers like Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron are unable to meet customer requirements, driving a wider shortage across the supply chain. With that, a report by Counterpoint Research has talked about Samsung's Q1 financial results, but the interesting parallel drawn by them was the fact that the Korean giant's operating revenue was actually higher than the likes of Amazon, Microsoft, TSMC, and Meta, showing a clear indication that the memory supercycle has come in to boost the company's business.

There has been concern about the sustainability of this demand, but Samsung is also addressing it by signing up to 5-year LTAs with hyperscalers.

Apple Reportedly Agrees to 100% Price Hike on Samsung Memory Chips

Thursday February 26, 2026 3:48 am PST by Tim Hardwick
Apple has agreed to pay Samsung twice as much for the LPDDR5X memory chips that it needs for ongoing iPhone 17 production, claims a report from Korean outlet Dealsite.

According to the report's sources, Apple recently held emergency meetings with Samsung's semiconductor division to negotiate delivery volumes of RAM for the first half of this year. The 12GB LPDDR5X modules used in the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro have already roughly doubled in price since early 2025, rising from around $30 to approximately $70.

Samsung is said to have originally planned to push for a 60% price increase on LPDDR5X modules supplied to Apple. Instead, however, Samsung opened with a 100% markup as a negotiating tactic – and Apple apparently accepted it on the spot.

RAM is so expensive, Samsung won’t even sell it to Samsung

Due to rising prices from the "AI" bubble, Samsung Semiconductor reportedly refused a RAM order for new Galaxy phones from Samsung Electronics.

according to a report from SE Daily spotted by SamMobile, is that Samsung Semiconductor rejected the original order for smartphone DRAM chips from Samsung Electronics’ Mobile Experience division. The smartphone manufacturing arm of the company had hoped to nail down pricing and supply for another year. But reports say that due to “chipflation,” the phone-making division must renegotiate quarterly, with a long-term supply deal rejected by its corporate sibling. A short-term deal, with higher prices, was reportedly hammered out.
