Samsung is releasing the Vibrant 4G, essentially what the Vibrant should have been. They told Tmobile to withhold the Android update for the original Vibrant, fearing that it would take away sales from the Vibrant 4G. Wow, screw you Samsung.

I suggest people not purchase Samsung devices. They are the worst when it comes to updates. I know phones aren't a good investment, but Samsung is making them obsolete right when you buy it.

yeah after reading all the SW problems people had with the fascinate i passed it, i know from experience (BB storm) that will make or break a phone no matter how good the hardware is.

after owning an original droid, i bought a droid X, in my experience motorola was really good at keeping their software up to date

As much as I like my Captivate when the time comes to replace it I'll be going to Motorola after reading this.

I just wish I could get a discounted upgrade from AT&T after 12 months instead of being stuck for two years, the Atrix is really tempting.

I don't understand why people are buying phones then getting pissed that it's not getting some big update down the road. Buy the phone for what it can do now, not what it might do 6 months from now.
I bought my Vibrant knowing what it could do when I bought it. As with any kind of free upgrade, you are at the mercy of the mfger. I also don't recall anything in the advertisements for the Galaxy phones that said, IT has all these great features now, but in the future we will graciously give you a bunch of free software updates.

Problem was in the case of the Samsungs GalaxyS phones is they were released with 2.1 during the mass roll out of top end phones to 2.2.
they marketed the GalaxyS as a top end phone.
and it really needs 2.2 in order to compete with the other phones in that class.

I traded my Epic in for an Evo just 1 week after buying as it just was a buggy mess.

Luckily, the devs almost have Froyo working on the Fascinate. I'd say it is over 50% functional. Here is the list:

INCOMPLETE LIST OF THINGS THAT DON'T WORK
Sensors
Lights
GPS
Camera
Wifi
Just about all the rest of the hardware

INCOMPLETE LIST OF THINGS THAT *DO* WORK
Calls
Audio
Data
SMS

I don't really know why, but that actually made me laugh out loud a little.

Meh someone will get the phone and do a system dump so people can flash their Vibrant themselves since its the EXACT same phone except for an extra camera.

That saying, I will never buy another samsung phone.

Good advice.

Also good to know that what I've been saying about Samsung for months has now been vindicated. :)

Yeah, I have to admit you were right all along. I've been defending these stupid things for months now but that won't be happening any more. If I could get a Atrix with subsidized pricing I would pick it up the moment it launched.

Carriers also have a hand in this, would you believe that all of the canadian galaxy s phones(captivate/vibrant/fascinate) already have froyo? Whodathunkit...

The Canadian Galaxy S phones are all i-9000 models, though. The i-9000 International Galaxy S got 2.2 a while back, last year sometime.

Thanks, Samsung! My next phone will be an HTC or LG. I'm waiting to see what's out there Holidays '11 and I'll switch then (contract is up october this year). My Vibrant will hold me over till then (with KA5 leaked rom + Voodoo5 kernel running EXT4).

I keep saying it, don't buy a Samsung phone. They are seriously the worst. Even low end phones have 2.2.

To be fair they do have some of the best hardware available it's just the lack of updates that's the problem. As unhappy as I am with the way they have treated us Galaxy S owners there are very few other phones that wouldn't feel like a downgrade from a hardware standpoint.

That's why I'm glad AT&T is getting the Atrix, Motorola is the only company that offers top of the line hardware while at least updating some of their phones in a reasonable manner.

Moto's been pretty good with the updates on their high end phones. For their lower end phones, its been hit or miss. Gotta give credit when credit is due though. HTC seems to have the best track record for OS updates. Manufacturers should post the updates in an update.zip or something on their sites if the carriers don't want to do an OTA update. Carriers should use their leverage to get the manufacturers to produce updates in a timely fashion.

Or they could chunk the custom UIs that slow the process down and use Stock Android. :)

Yeah, HTC does seem to have the fastest updates but IMO their hardware has been pretty stagnant since the EVO's launch.

I'm surprised manufacturers don't abandon their custom skins for later updates like this, vanilla android should be a lot less work and it would maker those of us in the vocal minority happy.

Wow, and I thought it would be Bateluer with the troll thread on this unsubstantiated BS.

If it's Samsung's doing, how come they've pushed Froyo onto EVERY SINGLE GALAXY S MODEL outside the United States? Yes, including Canadian models that came out after the US ones.

Err, thanks . . . but go read the article again. This time they have have a slightly improved version of the Galaxy S Vibrant, which they would prefer to sell instead. They'd rather you buy the new phone rather than have you keep the older Vibrant.

The article is likely BS but Samsung's reply doesn't inspire any confidence. But I'm less disappointed with official Froyo than I am of shoddy GPS.

Samsung makes too good of hardware for me to ignore them but I will definitely think twice and do lot of research before buying another Samsung phone.

Oh and I also blame T-Mobile for some of this Samsung Vibrant mess. I will likely leave them when my contract is up.

Why blame Tmobile? Same shit is happening on ATT, Verizon, and Sprint.

Yeah if this rumor is true I have a serious problem with that. Sammy promised froyo for all the galaxy s phones. They also promised mediahub to all the galaxy s phones. They seem to be straight up lying to our faces. I have the fascinate and a galaxy tab. Will be switching to the xoom and the bionic as soon as they are available.
