I don't have to buy right now. I have the money to buy it but I can wait until early April (after my bday so hopefully I get some more $).

???
you have to depend on birthday money to get a tv?
how old are you dude? and do you live at home?

as to your question, read the thread on AVS. quite a few complaints on the edge lit Samsungs (clouding, auto-dimming). if out of those 3, 8500 or nothing.

He didn't say he needed the money, it would just help him bump his budget up a bit.

No I don't have to depend on bday money for anything. I have $2000 in cash right now but if I wait till April then I'll have some more money from whatever my relatives send me for my bday.

No I don't live at home with my parents. I own my own place which I'm trying to save to buy a bigger place next year. Whatever money my wife and I make now goes towards putting down $90-100,000 for a down payment. Whatever money I get from selling random crap on eBay, working OT, etc (income that isn't counted on) I'm putting towards a TV. I been saving for the past 2 years and now I have enough to buy something in cash. Plus my wife and I had a baby last year so spending $2000 on a TV isn't chump change. It's a lot different then buying a $40 video game.

Anyways I don't have to explain my situation to you. I just wanted thoughts on which TV I should buy.

I think I'm going to go with the Sony. I saw some pics of it on AVS and it looks nice. I went to a bunch of stores yesterday and nobody had it. They did have the EX500/501 models which were nice so in guessing the 700s will be even nicer.

I still like the design and bezel of the Samsung LEDs a little bit better but I was watching a demoed UN55B8500 in magnolia and the motionflow on it was just horrendous. Turned off it looked better. The picture was nice but it does command a big cost.

$1900 for the Sony seems like a good buy plus whatever money is left over I can either get a new home theater setup or a 13" MBP (refurb).
