You want the monitor to have Portrait mode. Most low end models do not include this feature.

Also, isn't this a function of the graphics card and not the monitor or are you saying that the physical hardware necessary to rotate the monitor isn't in low end ones.

1080p, sometimes referred to in marketing materials as "Full HD", typically refers to the capability to accept 1080p signal and display it with native resolution of at least 1080 lines. For example, 1920x1080 is 1080P.

I believe that the term 'Full HD', as it pertains to PC monitors, is an attempt by the marketing 'geniuses' to try to convey a supposed feature of a certain monitor that is in actuality something less than the 1920X1200 monitor resolutions sold initially.

A Full HD monitor will display high definition, TV and Blu Ray (along with HD DVD), material at full 1080p resolution BUT you will not be able to display ANYTHING natively at 1920X1200.

In other words, it is a marketing gimmick that is meant to entice you into buying a certain monitor with expectations of superior resolution, when in fact you are getting a monitor with less resolution capability. So, a 1920X1200 monitor CAN display 1080p natively, but a Full HD monitor will not be able to display 1920X1200 natively.

My monitor is also advertised as "Full HD" and it does everything in 1920X1080
Full HD just means it has a max resolution of at least that amount, because 720p is also considered HD

The number 1080p comes directly from the resolution 1920X1080.
1200 vertical lines would be 1200p, but movies don't record in 1200p so no one really say it that way

And it's obvious a 1920X1080 monitor won't be able to display in 1920X1200 in fullscreen without any black edges, the aspect ratio is different. That would be a physical impossibility
