Pretty decent deal on a phenomenal drive, IMHO.

I've bought plenty of drives from Nowdirect, never had an issue. Well packaged and shipped quickly.

The "green" drives are 5400RPM. This is 7200RPM.

I, personally, prefer the 5400RPM drives as I use mine for storage. I have 10 of the 5400RPM variants of this Samsung drive running at home in RAID-5. Solid as a rock.

How would this compare to 2 160GB 7200 rpm drives in raid? Would I notice a speed difference?

I need more room.

Great drive. It would be a great pick for and all around drive. The WD Black would be a bit faster but about $20 more as well. For the money you can't beat it.

Platters are probably denser, so STR will be higher. Heck, you can probably just run one of these and be better off than your RAID setup.

didn't even know samsung makes hard drives....

What rock have you been hiding under for the past 15 (at least) years? I can remember using Samsung 560MB drives BITD.

This was 89 bucks @ ZZF not too long ago. Now it's back to 99 bucks.

Keep in mind seagate just came out with 500 platter drive. 7200.12 - They are almost as fast as a WD raptor. Look for the 1TB for about 100 and 1.5TB for about 130

That's why these drives are going to be cheap soon. Supposedly the 7200.12 firmware is much more advanced. Time will tell.

that is, only time will tell if seagate drives are free of failures that have plagued them as of late. they also have been the loudest and hottest (literally) drives in the market for some time, hope they got their act together now.
