Samsung Smart TV loses Connection to Seagate NAS

I have a Samsung Smart TV UN40ES4500 (?) that seems to be losing the connection to my Seagate NAS when I play stored videos from it. The NAS seems fine, and I can access it from other devices when the TV loses the connection.

We have reverted to accessing from our Samsung smart BluRay player to see if it has more stability. That seems to work, though the TV standby screen saver somes on FTTT and requires a remote touch to remove. I will have to look into settings to kill the screen saver.

I was always reluctant to buy a smartTV since I don't want to pay to replace netorking HW on it.

Any thoughts on this issue?

Thanks,

Marc

Don't buy a smartTV next time and get a dedicated device?
Smart TV apps/services are always subpar. I can't even connect to networked storage anymore on the Samsung TV's we have. Just doesn't work anymore and it used to.

I've had a similar problem with my TV also, Samsung 8550 series. I've read that if you change the files in the directory that they are stored, Samsung SmartTV will no longer be able to recognize it and require you to reinstall. That seemed to be my problem at least. I'm about to add a new movie to my directory, hopefully it will not lose connection.

TV was not my desire. Wife wanted it. I wanted the $69 smart Blu Ray player. Samsung not gushing with support ideas. I'll try swing cables, though they have been fine for over a year.

Okay. I found something that will probably solve all of our problems. I've read around on AVS forums and they say that whenever you change a file or folder, it can cause the Samsung Link to lose connection. Samsung link just has too many bugs from what I understand. I'm assuming you are using Samsung link? How is your media server setup? I'm using my main PC as a server with some installed software to turn it into a house wide media network. If you are using a Western Digitial My cloud hard drive, I don't think I can help you with that.

If you are using your main PC as a media server to network throughout your home, go and download Serviio. It's free. You only have to pay for it if you want to access your files outside of your home. Otherwise, it is free and people on AVSforums recommend to use this as a home media server. So far, it seems to work great. I've only tested it for a few mins.

Edit:
I google searched your model TV and can not find any information on it. WTF? lol

Yeah, running a real DLNA server on your network is always going to improve things. Home Media Center or MediaTomb are other good options. Honestly more than anything it comes down to finding the EXACT DLNA profile for your device for it to work, otherwise things like fast forwarding will be broken. That is where Serviio shines a little compared to the rest, as it might get it right out of the box for you.

One of my best friends had a very similar problem to this and a DLNA server was a great bandaid for him to be able to use his local library until I got him a better solution for the following X-Mas. It is worth a try.

I am running a Seagate NAS server, and I have problems whether I use the samsung software or the Seagate app.

I agree with tential! My samsung 7150 smart tv sucks when comparing it to a roku or a fire tv. Spend the cash, and you will be much happier.

I have two connected blu Ray players a roku and two chromecasts. The tv worked fine for a while, so I'm wondering why it's failed. I have lots of options, but don't want to just punt that easily.

Do all of other options have the same issue?

Only the tv seems problematic...Only lately. It worked fine for over a year, though the all share hub gets overcrowded fttt making ur impossible to use. Then I jump on chromecast, but cannot stream local files. Suppose I need to set up plex

Sounds like you are getting there. If you need a remote driven Chromecast for the Misses that is called a Roku.

Who needs a stinking remote when you have a phone/tablet PC (whatever's handy) to drive the screen. Wife loves it.

In fact it's hard to get to use the TV to stream from the server to troubleshoot. I guess it's not that big a problem.

My Samsung TV worked for over a year as well. It just simply stopped working one day. No clue why.

The Smart TV benefit vs Cost just isn't worth it. Even the approved aesthetics aren't worth it, but if it makes the wife happy... well, I'm not married I won't judge.

Seems like you got chromecast working though so great! Never was able to deal with the startup time from unlocking a device to being connected but if she's happy, can't complain.

So, in my first networking class way back, I was taught that 99% of all connectivity problems are loose or bad wires. I replaced both connectors and have had no problems with my connectivity since. I watched 3 hours of video tonight without a hitch. Go figure.

Good to hear. I guess I'll have to replace all my wires for my issues currently first as I'm having other connectivity related problems elsewhere.
