Good find, aside from Plextor SATA models are very difficult to find.
It's tempting but I'll hold off in hopes of SATA going mainstream in the next year. I can't wait to get of the IDE bus!

Newegg has the new Lite-On 16x SATA DVD-burner for $32.99 + $5.64 shipping (or free if you use the Paypal free shipping code thru the 10th). Doesn't do Lightscribe, but is way way lower priced.

We have carried that drive at BB for over a month now. I have been waiting for it to become more common so I could actually find a review on it. I would search and search, and just got returns in other languages or a site that had firmware for it, but no other site seemed to carry it and I couldn't find a single review. Now that Toms placed an article about it, hopefully someone will review it!

Nice find! Those access times are a bit dissapointing though, I'll wait until I see some benchmarks.

I just upgraded all 3 of the desktop machines in my house with the Lite-On SATA DVD-RW drive. Nice, very quiet, and about 3/4" shorter than the NEC drives they replaced. My only beef is that it would be nice if it had a 4 pin molex power connector (it has SATA power).

Hawter than the $9 sata plextor amazon/office depot fiasco :)

FINALLY! The right price for the right drive!

Now we should see some sata pioneer, nec, or benq's too!

NE review is at an all time low for the one reviewer and the Lite-on SATA.

Newegg has always been great to deal with for me on RMA's...I hope this drive isn't a headache, but I really was looking for an SATA burner and this is a good buy.

It might even be cheaper using Fatcash and Google Checkout on Shop4Tech. Something like <$30 shipped. I've ordered 3 of these drives and they're great.

EDIT: Oops, I was thinking of the NEC-3550 IDE drive. It's about time some SATA drives came out!

Which drive are you talking about?

I just looked at microcenter's website and they only have one SATA dvd drive, at 129.99

Plextor Drive

No, you have to buy an adapter and connect it to the parallel port.

You mean a SATA adaptor pci card?
What would it be called, that adaptor you referred to?

:| Took a call to my credit card company and two months to get my money back from that. Office Depot said they refunded the money to Amazon. Amazon showed it as processing. Nothing showed up on my CC statements. Amazon said to talk to Office Depot. Office Depot said to talk to Amazon. Discover Card took care of me and got my money back.
