Putting the fingerprint reader in the power button also reduces the surface area for scanning. Also, I'm not sure it's smart to link a reader to the power button when you need it for Apple Pay... do you want to accidentally sleep your phone while you're trying to pay at Walgreens? That and, let's face it, the circular home button is fairly iconic.

Those other flagships with less bezel also have on-screen navigation keys, or make calculated tradeoffs like placing the fingerprint reader on the back.

I do think Apple could stand to trim the size, but it may have to be more conservative than you're hoping. Shrink the top and bottom bezels as much as possible without significantly shrinking the home button (say, by cutting out blank space). Side bezels? Maybe, but iOS' swipe gestures are helped by having at least a little bit of bezel on the sides.

Where Apple really needs to step up its game is display quality. I don't think the 750p display on the iPhone 6/6s is bad (it's generally color-accurate and bright), but it was clearly chosen as a tradeoff for battery life and other concerns. OLED? Maybe, but I'm more interested in Apple going to a resolution around 1080p or quad HD if it can do so without taking a hit to battery life.

I can't see that increasing the screen resolution will help at all. My iPhone 6S looks just as sharp as my Galaxy S6 Edge+, so I'm not sure what increasing the screen resolution would actually achieve now.

Thank goodness we have no phones with that supposed 'design flaw' then. Crisis averted!

Lg G2, Note 4, 5, Huawei Mate 7, 8 and many many more with body to screen ratio of >>75% where the 6+ has 67.7% and the regular 6 has 65.6%.
I mean when the Note 5 has a BIGGER SCREEN in a smaller body than the 6+, if thats not a design flaw, I don't know what is.

Then it's clear you don't know what a design flaw is then.

I would say a headphone jack is iconic. Things are essential and iconic until they aren't.

Plus the iPhone's look isn't iconic, its dated. When the iPhone 7 with less bezel is on the shelf every Apple fan will agree with me.

At worst they just need to cut off the top bezel. That basically catches them up to HTC then.

Where Apple really needs to step up its game is display quality.

Plus OIS on the smaller model. And waterproofing. And some sort of VR offering.

S7 Edge is the most 'modern' looking phone at this time. iPhone sales and Apple profit margin prove that they can still get away with a dated and boring design for years.

Much as the s7 intrigues me... I'm holding out for the Note 6.

Samsung has to realize they need to knock it out of the park to compete with the iPhone 7 if Apple does actually does get up off their ever-widening laurels and bring the iPhone design up to date... and beyond that maybe even set a few new bars.

The Note 6 simply has to be epic.

Its pretty damm clear you don't know what logic is then.
Designing also means creating a layout that has your circuit board, battery, etc...in a way that can sit in a more compact body. Clear Apple engineering hasn't been able to figure out that part yet.

Up to date???? Its only two generations old and certainly doesn't look a quarter as ugly as 99% of the Androids phones out there!

OMG this - it annoys me that my wife's 6S doesn't have OIS. While I find the camera on my Note 5 generally equivalent to her 6S in everyday use, low light photography especially without something to steady the phone is significantly better on my phone. Annoys me that the 6S Plus is superior to her phone in this area as she has no desire for a phablet.

just got mine, TouchWiz is still a complete piece of crap. Display is gorgeous, though.

With Android 6.0, you can install alternate dialers, like the Google Dialer. With that, Nova or Google Launcher, keyboard, calendar, and Samsung's themes, you can Google it back for the most part.

Just got mine and it definitely looks like just a larger version of my wifes gold s6e but quite a bit of an improvement over the note 4. I no longer have the note 4 but I'm not seeing any improvement in the screen quality as the note 4 was already good.
The real test for me is battery life, I usually do about 2-3hrs sot at work with music playing. The always on screen for me will be great as I'm constantly checking the time for work related stuff.

Just recently switched my tmobile plan to one of the four lines for price of three. Fourth is basically a spare/hotspot phone at the moment, so thinking of canceling the fourth line and then ordering a pair of these by adding the fourth line back.

Anyone have experience doing this type of thing before?

Whether or not you think the iPhone's look is dated is subjective. Clearly, a lot of people disagree (otherwise, the iPhone wouldn't be outselling Samsung's flagships by a wide margin).

The problem with saying fans will agree if the iPhone 7 ships with smaller bezels: there's no way to quantify it. They'll buy it because it's the new shiny, and it'll seem fresh to many even if the bezels are just as big.

I'm less concerned with OIS and more the intended effect: getting a stable shot. The iPhone 6s is apparently already part water-resistant, so I suspect you'll get your wish. VR is another matter... I could see it happening, but I suspect Apple would want to do more than just offer a me-too response to the Gear VR. That could take a while, so I'm not going to be upset if September rolls around and Apple has no VR offerings.
