Honestly a Galaxy S3 would be fine if you want it. Dual Core S4, 2gb, 720p screen. Same specs as the Moto X 2013. Only difference is it is running Samsungs skin and could get laggy at times. For a phone to use as a phone (Texting, email, GPS) then it will be fine. I still see LOTS of them out in public. Plus as I recall it also had a pretty decent camera.
If I were buying a phone from that era, I'd probably choose the S3. I went with the Nexus 4 back then and it was a great phone but the Camera and battery life were absolutely horrendous.
