Hello all. First, I apologize if this is a bit off topic for this forum, but I'm new at this board and wasn't quite sure where my question belongs!

I'm running a 1.6a on an Asus P4S533 mobo at 2.13 GHz with 512Mb Samsung DDR PC2700. This is "true original Samsung" OEM memory from Newegg. I've searched high and low and I can't seem to find what the stock CMOS settings are for this memory stick. Shall I just use the SPD setting? Any suggestions on how to set the CMOS for max memory performance? Can anyone help? Thanks,

well iam rather new at this ocerclocking and mem settings etc, but i'll start off the response to this thread....

as far i my limited knowledge on this topic goes..... the lower you set the CL settings the better the performance in the sense of raw ability of the rig. ie CL 2
but a lower CL often means a more unstable system and a limit on how high you can go.
set CL to 2.5 or 3 and the system is more stable and able to crank up a better speed without crashing on you. but the raw performance isnt there

so i guess you play around with it and see how far you can go (FSB) with CL of 2
then up it to 2.5 (i think thats the factory setting for the Samsung PC2100) and see if the slightly higher FSB offsets the lower CL setting.

thats about all i know, still learning myself...
unfortunately havent got an overclocking friendly MoBo so havent been able to experiement much (and cheap RAM)

but hope to change all that next week with getting a KT333 board with some good quality (KIngston) PC2700 RAM

hope i helped some

check out asusboards.com. Their forum is very helpful. Go to the Intel/otherchipsets forum, they have a large thread dedicated to tweaking the Asus P4S533

Thanks for your replies. Rogue -- your reply confuses me a bit. Here are the settings in my CMOS under Advanced>Chip configuration:

CAS Latency (SPD 2.5)
RAS to CAS delay (SPD 4)
RAS precharge time (SPD 4)
RAS active time (SPD 7)
Command Lead off time (currently set to auto -- other options 1T or 2T)

I'm having a hard time equating your suggestions to the above settings. Thanks

Robert, I have my 1.6a@2400Mhz w/Samsung PC2700 running at 375Mhz, CPU/MEM ratio of 4:5, Ram at 2/3/3/7/1 = Fast :D
