Just bought a Note 5, wasn't dropped but it now has a cracked back glass less than 24 hours after purchase. frustrating

That's surprising, had mine for about 3 weeks now and not a single crack. I haven't dropped mine though.

I have seen it survive 4 feet on to concrete without a crack in some drop tests online, though if you drop it at the right angle it can crack from pretty much any drop.

Come on - if you're going to come and post, then might as well provide all the info you can. GG4 won't just crack so for the benefit of everyone (to not do the same thing), what exactly happened? I assume it did hit something with force - though it might have been an unfortunate angle.

Just normal use, wasn't dropped at all. Just my laying on table when not it use is the only time it could have happened. It was not dropped with force at all.

sorry mate, i just dont believe that, if that is what actually happened, that sucks. But maybe if you have kids or something they dropped it without you noticing.

Either way, try and return it within the 14 day window? Good luck.

I understand, I would not have believe it either if it didn't happened to me.

My son's s4 just cracked a few weeks ago. It was during a heatwave and he was inside a highly cooled AC area and stepped outside and the screen cracked instantly when it hit the heat.

Of course Samsung do not sell the best color option (Titanium/Tungsten?) for either the Note 5 or the S6 Edge+. I am puzzled by this seemingly idiotic decision. Why do they bother to "announce" a color option that they will not sell? I had a similar aggravation with the S6 Edge earlier this year because the green version was not available anywhere.

No they are selling them, just not in the US market, you can get them in singapore, thailand, korea, etc.

We live in an international world, the announcement was an international event.

I agree it's frustrating, but if you really want one you can buy one at full price + import fees.

I've looked on eBay and Amazon for imported ones and I could not find a titanium one. I think that is as far as I am willing to go. I do not want to purchase a $800 phone from a foreign dealer.

Just got an OTA update on AT&T for a new build. I am not sure what it includes besides the stagefright fix.

Thx - downloading it now. It has a generic log - performance and security updates. Obviously stage fright, but hopefully it even includes the security updates from the most recent Google update last week.

Folks on XDA seem happy so far with it - some are saying wireless charging is a bit less finicky and fingerprint detection is a bit faster. But nothing substantial.

Geekbench scores are down for multi-core score a decent bit, what that actually means (if anything) for real world use I don't know.

It also appears Antutu benchmark scores have fallen a fair bit in a few areas specifically.

and after the update, on this one I put two red marks in the areas most effected by the update.

Mine post update is in between your scores. I'd rerun yours since that UX Score looks like an error.

Mine is now higher than yours, but my UX score is still in the 400s. This was after a full restart and 10 minutes to let it sit before starting the test again.

Does anyone know where I can learn about the differences between regional models? Specifically which regional market each model targets? Further specifically, I would like to know the difference between models C, F, and I.

SM-G928C
SM-G928F
SM-G928I

I presume the differences are shared between Note 5 and S6 Edge+.

Sorry - though you might find more info if you try to look up the Note 5 model numbers SM-N920x. There seem to be band support differences, though it's not well documented which phone covers what.

---------

Android Pay is now available and it only supports a subset of my cards right now, though a much greater subset than Samsung Pay Beta.

Honestly at this point, I just want the Samsung Pay Beta to end and for it to support at least my major cards (Citi, Amex). I don't want two payment apps and if the Samsung app will cover NFC and magstripe, I don't see much reason to use Android Pay. However if card support is different, that would be incredibly annoying.

I have another question: Do you have to use fingerprints on the unlock screen if you want to use fingerprints for web log-ins? In other words, is unlocking the phone using fingerprints required for the rest of use scenarios for fingerprints-authentication?

Nope just changed my screen unlock to pin and still was able to enable fingerprint unlock for sites.

Just a reminder for anyone who may care, previous presendnce in US courts allows for police to require you to unlock your phone if it is locked by fingerprint, however the law requires them to have a search warrant if you have a real password (not a finger print).

So if you are worried about an unlawful search of your device you may wish to enable a password instead of fingerprint login, or you can also encrypt your device so it requires a password every time your device turns on

So after trying out Sidesync...I'm not sure what the point really is. Mirroring my phone screen on my computer is useless.

Transferring files wirelessly can be done a bunch of different ways and I'd probably just plug it in if I need to move large files.

Notifications I suppose could be useful but my phone sits on a stand in front of me when I'm on my computer...so again seems kind of pointless.

Are there some use cases I'm missing?

I like using sidesync simply for the fact that even though my phone is right next to me all day, I can continue texting someone and see incoming messages using the same keyboard and screen I'm already using to do my work with. It just saves the hassle of picking up the phone and typing on it to reply (major distraction) or even having to glance over at it.

Granted, it's not that big of a deal, just it's nice to have. (And sure, I could use MightyText or other services to do similar, but I find having the actual phone screen on my monitor is more useful, as it's every service I'm using.)

How's the battery life hit been when you leave it running?

I don't use it in wifi mode, but with the phone directly plugged into the computer, so it's trickle-charging anyway. Also, I like that it turns the device screen off. Seems to be a wash, because I haven't noticed any particular battery hit using it- never occurred to me even.

I don't suppose there's a source for any of this info... Is there?
