Samsung Monitor Question

I've heard that Samsung monitors are very well-made, and I was looking to pick up a 997DF, but it's very very low price point (179 for a 19" new) made me a little suspicious. Is this a monitor to be on the watch for, or is it a steal at that price? What do the suffix letters "DF" and "MB" stand for? Thanks for your help.

The DF stands for Dyna-flat, which is their name for their invar shadow mask they use. I haven't followed the change of Samsung monitors since I got my 900NF (the bomb) a long time back, but I'm guessing the 997DF is just an updated model of the 955DF. The 955DF is/was a great monitor for it's price... it's always recommended a lot, in Anand's Guides too, so I don't think you could go wrong with one. Just compare the specs, perhaps the 997DF just has better refresh rates than the 957DF. I would be certain the monitor you are getting is capable of running @ 85hz for the resolution you intend to use.

The 997DF DOES have much better refresh rates than the 955DF. On the 997DF, you can run 1600x1200 @ 75Hz easily. It isn't expensive either, because Best Buy has it for $199.99 with a $20 rebate. I saw it there, running their demo and it looked excellent.

If you were to choose between the two, choose the newer 997DF. It also had a TCO '03 Sticker on it!

I don't know about MagicBright so much. I know the 957MB is highly thought of by PC World and others, but I saw the 17" version next to the 997DF and I really couldn't see what the difference was. I would like to point out that the 900NF is no longer available, and hasn't been for some time.
