The toner included is 1/3 full - 1000 pages versus the normal 3000 (semi-standard practice with laser printers).

So, it's not work buying if you're just looking for more toner.

I bought one of these about a month ago, speed is great, text looks superb.

Not really. A typical laser toner is 3000 pages, a typical inkjet cartridge is only 1000 pages. So although you spend more on a single laser toner, per page price is about the same as with inkjet printers if not cheaper.

from atlascopy.com, you can get a gallon of each color for $20 each, so $80 for all 4 colors, and you will have 4 gallons of ink!

That'll last you for probably over a million pages!

The only problem I have not been able to get my cartridges to last more than two refills. You can buy the toner refills on flebay for cheap and refill the toners real easy. This is what I did on my 1710. This is a great price for a laser printer I like the quality of the prints.

That's not the only problem, the other problem is that we'd be ignoring that these have a cart with a cap so bulk toner can be bought too. It's not very easy to get cheaper cost per page than with a B&W laser, but then again it could partially be cuz they're mostly used for text, a significant limitation for some people that don't want two printers.

Note that I am not 100% sure the starter cart. has the cap, but if not, burning a hole with soldering iron or wood burner is the time-honored tradition.
