As usual, no link to back up your FUD.

I say Apoppin has back pain and only posts after his fourth Oxycontin!

What? Don't believe me? Here, I'll give you the Apoppin' references:

There! You should believe me just as much as Apoppin' now because I've posted my opinion with some emoticons, which is all we ever get from Apoppin'.

But! This would confirm that Samsung "was not" mass producing it before, yes?
I mean, why make this announcement if they were making it in mass quantity all along?
Most likely because they were not.

So, the "excuse" as you put it, turns out to be a valid one. Doesn't make sense for it not to. Sure G71 and R580 will use this memory regularly.

and i am giving my opinion with nothing but time on my side to prove me right . . . you'll never see the 512 GTX in mass supply.

Haven't you realized that i occasionally post my own opinion? :p

Still means NV knew or should have known they would have mem shortages.

Mass production begins a bit before a product is released, no?
Lets go through this logically:
R580 and G71 are rumoured to be released soon.
Neither company seems to favour paper launches anymore.
Hard launches require a stock of cards.
Cards require RAM
Samsung produces RAM
RAM gets put on cards and cards get stockpiled.

Likelihood does seem to be there is a ramp in production ready for the next round of cards, and not for a few more GTX512's.

As far as the lack of memory being a excuse, well who knows why that's relevant or where it came from.
But the indicators of future cards round the corner are realistic.

And that has to do with this topic how exactly? Or did you just feel the need.....

let me try again . . . and i am giving my opinion with nothing but time on my side to prove me right . . . you'll never see the 512 GTX in mass supply

. . . and i don't need anything but logic . . . the 'ultra' was a stopgap by nVidia - a 5000 run [the rumour goes] press edition - solely created to take the performance crown.

it is also expensive to produce. the cheaper g71s and x1900xts are gonna use this same now mass-produced vRAM . . . there won't be anything but a trickle [still] for the now 'old ultra'. . . .
, , , Remember = as some of you are fond of reminding me = nVidia isn't making cards for your pleasure . . . just to make money. . . .

. . . and to kick the crap outta ati. :p

fits in nicely. just goes to show that some people dont buy into the "samsung isnt producing enough memory" excuse for the gtx 512 shortages

Ati has farked up in the past, and we called them on it
Nvidia dropped the ball on this one, we should call them on it without exclupating them with these BS excuses

Thanks Thug thats about what I meant. (using graffiti sucks for long messages)

Keys just so you know where I'm coming from, I also think (as most do) that ATI screwed the pooch on the X1000 launch. I think the design is great but the fact they had "metal layer problems" that delayed launch by 4 months is just as inexecusable as knowingly or unknowingly releasing a press edition card due to memory shortages. Plus with the folks posting in this thread I didn't feel the need to leave the gloves on ;)

(Actually I'm pissed at NV for dropping AGP and ATI for screwing up the X1000 launch. If they had launched on time they would have released an AGP X1800 forcing NV to do the same with the 7800s and I could have upgraded to a nice 7800GT or X1800XL instead of waiting for at best an X16(7)00XT in AGP)

BTW are you using the P4 SKT 478 PCIe Albatron board? If you are is it any good? I really don't have the time to rebuild my machine but it may come to that.

Thanks

if you overclock, it may not be too good [according to what i read in GH] . . . i can get 3.5Ghz outta my 2.80c with a modest voltage boost on my Abit IC7 . . . getting an Albatross Socket 478 PCIe board would allow me a nice 7800GTX paired with a crappy 2.80c at 2.8Ghz.

I haven't yet but I was planning on it if my CPU felt slow at some point. My P4P800E is about the same class as your abit for OCing so I expect I could get a decent OC on this sucker with my board and CM Preatorian case. My main issue with that board is the chipset - I have three PATA devices and it only has two available so add in a pci pata card.

Yeah. The Albatron board works beautifully, allowing me to use my 478 CPU and DDR.
Very Stable, no probs. And some decent overclocking features, even though I don't o/c. But they are there.

I tried just now to o/c a bit. My 3.0E does 3300 without issue. Not much I know, but I'm not one for pushing my transistors. :)

so i could get at least 3.0Ghz . . . something to consider . . .

thanks for the mini-review . . . i was under an impression that the boards didn't o/c well

i guess it wouldn't be too much difference to sell my IC7 and buy the ALbatron. . . . hmmm

edit:

Now you gotta change your sig!

LOL!!! You mean the o/c? I did it for the sake of humanity!!!!
But seriously, I didn't keep the o/c there. Its back to normage. ;)

ONE CAUTION!!!! This board has only ONE IDE channel. So if you have a CD/DVD drive, you better make sure you have SATA hard drives. You can place an IDE hard drive as master and the CD as slave, but I never liked doing that.

Well, now you better not RMA that P4 or your MB. ;)

P4 3.0E - 2GB - Albatron PX915P4C - eVGA 7800GTX - no o/c'ing allowed. . . Except for the sake of humanity!!!!

Thanks for compromising your principles for us.

edit:

almost forgot . . .

:D

last edit: Damn . . . looks like your MB only supports Prescott, not NW :(
