Anyone had any good/bad experiences with the 20" Samsung LCD range? I've ordered a 205BW and have heard it's good, except some have stand issues.

The biggest thing that swayed me towards Samsung is their zero dead pixel policy.

My 1st LCD was the 204b from samsung and it sucked major ass, so dumped that and got the 215tw and it was awesome, its sitting in my closet since I use a 24" now. So one good one bad, overall I would still say they make awesome LCD's providing you do your homework and get one thats actually good. I have a told people about other samsung LCD's and they bought them and loved them.

I got the 226bw from my girl over the holidays. Its a crisp display. The only drawbacks are what you have confirmed already about the stand and tilt. I have mine sitting on a power supply box on top of a Dictionary and its perfect. hah

I just exchanged my 206BW for a 2232GW and couldn't be happier.
The 206BW had 1 dead pixel and the colour's were terible.

I own 226bw and I'm very satisfied with it.
I have zero dead pixels.
There is little bit of back light bleed at the top but it doesn't bother me.
also might need some change to the color settings though.

My 204b has been flawless for the last year and a half. It's calibrated to my liking and no problems so far.

Decent monitor and worlds better than my 19" Acer. ... it is a 20.1 16x10 LCD @ 60 hz.

What stand issues?

Mine only suffers from a limited vertical viewing angle. Since i am a "one person" monitor, it presents zero problem [no one needs to look over my shoulder] ... and i have noticed that you can have two supposed identical models - manufactured on the same line on the same day with the same model number by the same manufacturer - an one is clearly better than the other.

If possible, always buy *two* so you can compare them side-by-side.

Here is a decent review of the 205bw:

20-inch WS, Dell 2007WFP vs Samsung SM205BW

I bought a 22" 2232BW last weekend, response time is excellent, but I'm still doing double takes while looking closely at 2 different shades of black, and there is noticeable backlight bleed on the top and bottom when they're black. I think it was the best monitor of all at Best Buy the day I bought mine, spent about an hour comparing them all head-to-head. I must have looked crazy standing there with all the 22" monitors facing me, rapidly bouncing my vision between them.

Not sure if they're still available here...but they're still available in Australia...and that's where we're moving to in a few weeks..

read a few reviews online that said the stand has issues, but then again, could just be the users who have the issues..

Hahah! I had to order it online (as we're not in Australia yet), and my wife nearly killed me for buying *one* let alone two! :) (Note: it's about $350 AUS to get them in Australia....being so far away from everything really kills prices).

I have a few month old 206BW I am looking to sell. The picture is great (got a newer panel) but the text is a bit small for my eyes. I was gonna list it on ebay but would sell it on here if I found the amount I was looking for. let me know if you are interested. It was manufactured in sept 07 so you know it really is fairly new.

Have a 245BW and I'm pretty happy with it.

The viewing angles aren't great but that's true of all TN panels.

It seems you either got a good one or a bad one according to most reviews. I'm glad you got the bad one they were going to ship to me hehe. As for viewing I normally sit directly in front of the monitor, I rarely sit 120 degrees off axis to play games etc. so that's not an issue. Geometry? Not an issue either. Of course I still prefer the 4:3 aspect to a widescreen monitor, I hate moving my eyes that far back and forth to be spawn fragged in CoD4.

I had the same experience as Glob with a Samsung 226BW (a 22" model) where very dark colors appeared brown or cross-hatched with brown/dark gray. I was playing Doom 3 at the time and wow was it noticeable ... it looked terrible. I immediately exchanged it for a LG that reproduced dark colors more faithfully and made Doom 3 playable again. Definitely go to a local store and view their monitors if you can.

I just picked up the 226BW and I have to admit, out of the box it did not look good compared to the gateway FPD2185 I had before (Gave it to my wife). After messing with the colors and brightness etc... for 45 minutes I think it looks as good or better now. I do have no dead pixes as far as I can tell.
