This could be the end of Samsung in the US.

To think Samsung could be this stupid after the Department of Justice told Sony that if something similar happens again their products will no longer be welcome here (Sony's rootkit found it's way onto government computers).

You think this would be end of Samsung? Your average idiots don't know how furious they should be.

This will be news you'll probably never hear again. Samsung will be fine in US.

I really doubt Samsung is going to go out of business, lol... If they do, goodbye SSDs.

it isn't a key logger. Time to update the topic.

Samsung notebooks are in fact secure
2011/03/31 11:57이슈와 Fact

The statements that Samsung installs keylogger on R525 and R540
laptop computers are false.

After investigating into this matter, it was found that the software installed
was in fact Vipre, not the commerical keylogger called StarLogger.

The confusion arose because Microsoft's Live Application multi-language
support folder, "SL" folder, was mistaken for StarLogger

(Live Application is Microsoft's application which provides messenger, email,
video, photo gallery functions. Depending on the language, under
C:\windows folders "SL" for Slovak, "KO" for Korean, "EN" for English are created.)

Samsung will continue to respect customer needs by providing the highest
quality products and services

And libel suits against a bunch of news outlets?

Sounds like this wasn't checked out very thoroughly.

If you sued news outlets for perpetuating false stories everytime it happened, there wouldn't be any news outlets left. ;)

They should def sue the Hassan guy though. The news outlets aren't experts who follow up with everything they get, they just go with it if it's a good story.

Well dammit, now what am I supposed to get upset and all huffy about?

Samsung put a keylogger on some Galaxy S phones. When I installed my current ROM on my Epic (Syndicate Frozen) the description talked about a Sprint/Samsung thing that basically records everything you do and sends it to them. One of the major features of the ROM is that it removes the monitoring software.

I'd be interested to know what percentage of the screen shots contained porn lol. Would be an interesting statistic to see just how much pc's are used for that sort of thing vs other things.

the funny this is that Hassan guy is an "expert"

the dumbass makes such wild claims it ridiculous. Its so hidden its in a readily viewable folder. The guy doesn't even bother to look inside to see the contents of the folder.

Guess his consulting job is gonna go to hell after this.

Oh and the computer security professor too. their credibility are shot.

So we're supposed to take Samsungs word for it and done, call it a day?

"The directory in question was C:\WINDOWS\SL, and is the Slovenian language directory for Windows Live. This same directory path is used by the StarLogger keylogger."

seems to me like someone with a samsung laptop could easily verify this.
