Hey everybody.

I'm looking for at fast, quiet and cheap HDD around 250GB for the OS in a new build.

I was initially thinking about the Samsung T166 HD252KJ.
But now i have read great things about the Samsung S250 HD250HJ which is said to perform well with great acoustics.

From the data i've read they seem to perform identical. The T166 have a larger cache but the S250 is the newest model.
They have pretty much the same (low) pricetag where i live.

Any thoughts on what to choose? Any help would be much apreciated.

hmm, I picked the T166 320GB for my upcoming build as the OS/program files drive. My goal is very similar to yours and I tried looking for comparisons between these "smaller" drives, but almost all interesting data is about bigger/newer drives.

In the end I picked this 320gb drive because it's a bit older tech = proven to not have any special reliability issues, and because the big brother T166 500gb has received good reviews. Many places also mentioned that the smallest drive of this particular T166 family was the 320GB one.. dunno where the smaller ones came from!

250KJ - 16MB cache, 2 platters
250HJ - 8MB cache, 1 platter
252HJ - 16MB cache, 1 platter (not available yet)

I'd get the 250HJ.

Thank you everybody for your help - Seems like 250HJ it is.

BUT

I just stumbled upon the 200HJ at a dirt-cheap price (waiting for the E8400 so having lots of time to look around :(). 200 GB would be more than enough for a system-disk.

I'm guessing this is a one-platter design as well.
Can i expect the same sort of performance and acoustics than the 250HJ?
Any known flaws, or issues i should know about?

Many thanks in advance
