For two months I've watched the new 16MB cache Samsungs arrive in Australia and Europe. Finally they're available in the US, and at a decent price! [ Limit 1, alas. ]
For WD and Sg fans, their 500's are only a few bucks more.
Note: I've yet to read a review of the 16MB cache'd Samsung T-series. I vaguely recall their 8MB cache, smaller capacity T-series units were rated as the quietest HD's (SilentPCreview.com), while their smaller P-series units had middle-of-the-pack performance overall (StorageReview.com).
Note also: the single NE "reviewer" is mightily "disappointed" at the Samsung RMA policy -- which reads a bit odd to me as well, but... I'll worry about that when I receive my unit.
Edit: Oops! Sorry, I typed the Title line correctly, but mis-entered 16GB in the body. Until now, all the large Samsung's available in the US have only had 8MB cache. The HD401 and HD501's have twice that cache, they're the quietest drives available, and at this moment the 501lj is the cheapest 500GB at NE. From the two comments posted, I guess this isn't of much interest, so sorry if I've wasted anyone's time.
