Apparently Samsung is really sore where it counts with the announcement of the iPad 2's specs.

They're publicly admitting it. They want thinner, faster, better. Too bad they should START with better customer support. But the best tidbit...

The first Galaxy Tab managed to scrape under the first iPad's thickness measurements at just under 12mm, but it's out-of-contract price was higher than the iPad's. Samsung was going to vault the price of their 10-inch Galaxy Tab even higher than the original's, but now the company "will have to think that over, " Lee said.

Translation: "Oh shit... our price point isn't realistic, is it?"

Companies are having a hard time pricing their tablets below Apple and having their products catch on. Never thought I'd say that. ;)

Samsung did sell a lot of Tabs but Apple is clearly dominating for the time being. Hopefully this will help those other companies making Android tablets sweat a little and try a little harder on their price points.

Yeah, it's one thing when Apple is selling their well-built but under-specced computers at a higher price than their competition. It's entirely another when they have unquestionably the best product in a segment AND one of the lowest prices.

After the iPad 2 showing, any tablet that is going for much over $500 after it launches is DOA.

I'm sick. They stink and admit it.

Meh. Better a company admits their product is inferior to the competition than to release something sub par and claim its actually great.

Yes, but it is oh so rare when a company does that, they usually will just let it die.

Just like with the iPhone, Android wouldn't be what it is now, without the fierce competition from Apple. I hope they get some serious competition going. I'd like an android tab. Just give me the appropriate options!

What competition???

They are both price the same, and i believe apple makes better hardware than what android is running on.

Wasn't the whole android OS pretty much free from google??? Why is it that devices cost the same or more???

If they even matched iPad but added a USB port, they could have a winner. That is Apple's weakness.

Well they'll never do that. You can keep wishing but that's not how they work. They will only ever have their proprietary connectors. It's just how it's going to be. If they allowed stuff like that, it'd eat too much into their profit.

Or it's simply because they want to keep their devices thin. A standard USB connector alone is 6mm already, and the iPad 2 is 8.8mm. Looks like an engineering nightmare to me.

Hopefully it drops into my price range. I'd also take a good price drop on the 7in tab, since I find the 7in size much better for what I want. Now, give me a damn WiFi-only version.

He should just drop the price and release it. If he's going to delay the device because it's "too thick," he's being an idiot. 12mm vs 9mm is basically a non-issue for something that's not going into your pocket.

Looks mighty good to me.

But could you use that USB to do everything that Apple uses the dock connector for?

Everybody else in the world gets by using the standard connectors. It's just Apple, they do it so they can control even accessories as well and make tons of money on them. You want to travel so you have to bring the cables AND connectors. Makes it much more of a hassle but this is nothing new as this is how Apple is so if don't want to use connectors and cables don't get an Apple device.

Micro USB and Micro HDMI still means you have to get some kind of adapter to hook it up to regular devices.
