Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

Hello friends. On Friday I received my free Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 running ICS and while it looks all kinds of lovely, I cannot, for the life of me, get it to connect to my wifi at home. My router is a Netgear N600 v2 and I have no issues with it as we have a Samsung Galasy SIIX and a Galaxy SIII at home which connnect to it without issue on a daily basis. I've tried resetting the router, factory resetting the tablet, and nothing. Not sure what else to do (my ISP has been useless).

Does anyone have any ideas on what is happening or how it can be fixed? I searched around and others seem to be having occasional issues, but there is no resolution as far as I can tell.

It does not even see my network. I have tried manually connecting it, but it does not see my network at all. It does see other local,. secured networks. I have not been near a free network to try it out. I guess I will try to find somewhere to try out a free, unsecured network, but it does seem to see other networks, so I assume the wifi itself works.

What do you mean by "setting the proxy"?

try changing the SSID name. My dumb Android won't connect at my friend's house and he refuses to change his SSID.

Ok, I'll give that a shot when I get home. Not sure why that would be the issue though... :hmm:

see if your router has a setting for encryption type (tkip or aes, i assume you're using WPA2 security). Set the encryption to "both" or "tkip/aes" or something like that. i've found that clears up connection issues sometimes.

Perhaps it's broadcasting on a different band than what the Tab is set at? 2.4ghz vs 5ghz?

Just a thought.

Yeah I did think of that, but my router says it broadcasts at both bands simultaneously, unless I am reading it wrong. :hmm:

If the Tab as the option (not familiar with it) make sure if it is a dual-band chip it's set to auto and not 5ghz or 2.4ghz.

With my DD-WRT router, I had to mod the N channel to broadcast at 5ghz otherwise it's N over 2.4 ghz.

I did not see anywhere to make this change unfortunately.

(Remember not to leave your network open for long and turn off all other devices on the network if you live in an urban area.)

Yeah i want to try this tonight, but I've been having trouble trying to log into my router. For some reason my ISP makes it a bit wonky and I can't use any of the default IPs to log in to my router and my ISP has no answer to this when I call them about it. :\

Eh? Are you trying to log into your router from inside your home network or over the WAN?

How does your ISP have anything to do with what happens on your LAN?

I don't know, but if I use the default Netgear IP to try and log in, nothing happens. If I go to my ISP's web interface, it shows my router with a different IP, but I also am unable to log in using that one.

I believe it is because of how it is set up, the internet is funnelled into one router in my big electronic box in the front hall closet, which is then routed to various ports throughout the house, one of which I then use to link to my Netgear router, giving me wireless throughout the house.

Of course I have no idea how all of this really works, so I could just be speaking out of my arse. :hmm:

Source (whatever comes out of the ground I guess) > router (situated in our front panel where all of the wires are) > wall (various outlets) > wireless router > PC

Do you know the model numbers of the router and wireless router?

I've had issues when chaining two routers together like that.

Do you know your log in details for your internet account?

It would be better if you just either a)only used the wireless router or b)used both but just used the wireless router as an access point.

I only know the Netgear (wireless) one since it's the one I bought; the other one was brought in by the technician.

I'll take a look when I get home. Thanks for trying to help; I am awful with this networking stuff, as I'm sure is evident by my posts. 😀
