But before you get your hopes up, that June 8th date isn’t exactly a nationwide launch — the Tab 10.1 will initially be available at only the Union Square Best Buy store in New York City. Yep, you’ll have to be in the city that never sleeps next Wednesday to purchase the $499 tablet. However, ten days later (obviously, that number isn’t a coincidence) on June 17th, it will launch across the country at various other Best Buys and retailers.
So, what’s the deal with the stock Honeycomb experience? Is Samsung really going to keep the .33-inch slate TouchWiz-free forever? Samsung’s Nick DiCarlo told us that there will eventually be an optional update with some TouchWiz UX elements, including the Mini App Tray and Live Panels, which were shown at CTIA.
Good on Samsung if TouchWiz UX update is optional.

Why is this? I have the XOOM and it has the 3G radio(upgradebale BS to 4G) and I have no need to ever activate it. I just use the hotspot feature of my phone (thunderbolt) and would much rather do that...

I would still get Asus Transformer over this. $100 cheaper and just as good if not better screen. Plus that has the dock and SD card slot. Both use Wolfson chip so Voodoo Sound will be available for both. I think Tab might use slightly newer Wolfson DAC.

most phones dont have free hotspots though. i wouldnt want to always have to turn on two devices and have to worry about batteries on two devices

This. There's also a microSD on the tablet (so you get two slots in total, one on the tablet, one on the dock). Extra battery on the dock, USB slots...

The Transformer is such an awesome thing... Gives you so many options and is cheaper.

The only thing the Galaxy Tab 10.1 has going for it is lower weight and thinner.

Besides, with the Tegra 3 quad-cores around the corner, I think I'll wait anyway....

The Galaxy Tab has a new Super PLS display that's noticeably better than IPS so the transformer is the one with the inferior display.

Maybe so but I haven't seen either display in person. I do know IPS screens on my computer LCDs and iPads are excellent. If the IPS screen on the Transformer is similar quality, it's good enough for me and I'll take the $100 savings. But Im skipping this gen Honeycomb tablets. Im more than happy with my 7 inch Galaxy Tab and can wait for Ice Cream tablets with something other than Tegra2.

Overall I am impressed with it, but I am majorly disappointed by the lack of an SD card slot. That oversight makes the Transformer a lot more attractive, not to mention it's $100 cheaper.

This video suggests that the Transformer display has a lower refresh rate, or at least one that is not in sync with the video recorder. The Samsung display looks noticeably better.

I still like my Asus better. In the video it looks like the SGS has a better screen but I love my screen plus the hdmi and sd slot are tops. And it doesnt look like an ipad knock-off. I do wish there were more options for the camera, like panarama and touch focus, but maybe an app will address that.

Actually in the last minute where they are running the demo i thought the screen on the asus was much better. I actually thought the samsugn was better but they had switched the position of the two tablets so it was the asus. I'm talking about the benchmarks; where they were showing the graphic output; the samsung was brighter had a lot less fidelity in the image.

Unless the 8.9 comes out with an SD card slot - which we know it wont - than the Transformer looks like the tablet for me (would go ipad, but Flash support is a must for me, and I hate iTunes). Either that or I can wait untill quad core tablet's are released later this year.

Played with one yesterday. It is very nice and very thin. A bit plasticey on the back but very light. If this had an SD slot I would be feeling buyers remorse for getting the transformer but alas it does not and is 100 bucks more but I can see where they are going with this and it is encouraging.

Catch is, by the time Tegra 3 devices actually start appearing, Nvidia will be pushing the Tegra 4 out.

Execution on these products needs work, ie, Nvidia announces SoC, Users can buy products based on it within a week.

I am wondering if 720p streaming video will work better with the Tegra 3 devices when they come out. I got to play with a Transformer in store the other day and SD video playback on Youtube and Gametrailers was fine, but once I switch to 720p things get choppy.
