I don't have a smart phone and my wife has been using a Blackberry at work for years. Yeah I know Blackberry... Anyway it died and she has the choice of Galaxy S III, Nexus, or Note 2. She does quite a bit of texting/emailing so which one is the best for that or in general?

Well obviously go to the store and have her try them out, but my vote goes to the Note 2. It is the best phone bar none in my opinion.

a lot of girls i know have switched to the note 2 now - they all have purses so carrying size isnt a factor, and for texting and emailing the larger screen is amazing.

most of them used to be on iphone 4/4s...now they couldn't believe they got by with such a smaller screen before.

She has a purse, so get her the Note 2. With a colorful flip case or three. ;)

Typing is mind-bogglingly easy on the huge screen.

edit: btw,
I don't have a smart phone

Note 2

The only potential issue is the size and with a purse that's not a problem.

Hate to say this, but I don't think the GNex should be realistically considered at this stage in the game. Doubly if you're on Verizon.

Yeah, definitely Note 2. Not just for the size but also the pen features. But of course have her go and try them and see what she prefers.

She's so not into looking that I can't get her to the T-Mobile store. She's really busy and just wants me to tell her what to get. Probably going to just go with the Note2.
Thanks guys.

The best one of those for text/email is still the Blackberry.

No way to know which of the options you listed is best without her checking them out. All are 'quality devices'.

Galaxy Nexus should not be considered. Galaxy S III if she wants a phone, Note 2 if she wants a mini-tablet.

Another nod for the Note 2. I had a recent work trip to Singapore, and was on the subway when an attractive, "very" petite young woman walked in, wearing a tight fitting designer dress. From out of Nowhere she pulled out a Note 2! It was a bit hilarious seeing someone so small using such a big phone, but she had no trouble with it, and the screen looks fantastic.

I love my Note 2. Great screen, amazing features, Touchwiz has matured nicely. S-pen is incredible. During my first week using it, I thought it was too big. I was regretting selling my Galaxy S3. After spending the next week on vacation & using the phone more, I found myself loving it.

If she can deal with the note 2 it is the best of the three. Better reception; better battery life; louder; better screen; ... Only negatives are slightly heavier and bigger size. Oh yea; none of these phones are great in drop tests; but from what I've read the note 2 does have a bit higher tendency to shatter if dropped so that might be something to consider. I guess 2013 will be the year of drop resistance glass (for samsung).

Out of all three of those, I would go with the Note 2. Although I'm still not a fan of touchwiz and likely never will be. I'm not a huge fan of skins period. Especially heavy ones like touchwiz which in my opinion just feel slightly bloated. I don't mind Sense 4+. Especially on the Droid DNA which can actually run Sense without choking but it still feels bloated.

Thanks for all of the responses. She gets a pretty good discount from work if she goes with Sprint so yesterday we got out to the Sprint store. Easier said than done with a 4 month old and a 4 year old;)

The Note 2 was just physically too big for her hands, especially when using as a phone. She just didn't like how it felt. So it came down to the S2 and S3. The S2 is a little smaller so she was leaning toward that one. While I don't know much about smartphones, from what I read here and handling both phones I could tell the S3 really has an amazing display. Plus the quad processors really gave it the edge. In the end she went with the S3. I've been fooling around with it and it's really an impressive piece of technology.

Now I've decided to go "smart" as well and get on her plan. I really love the S3 but don't know how I'm going to get around with it? In the winter I can put it in my coat pocket but in the summer it'll be hard to fit in a pant pocket. The S2 is only a tiny bit smaller so not really worth the downgrade in features.

Does Sprint offer any decent smartphones that are more iphone size?

Only the, um, iPhone. Sprint has a pretty weak selection now.

I hope Sprint has lit up LTE where you live -- the data speed is abominable otherwise. (Well, WiMax isn't bad if that's still lingering, but her phone doesn't have WiMax and neither should yours.)

Both SGS3 and Note II is quiet awesome. Galaxy Nexus is too old to be in the running, if anything Nexus 4

I did a quick test last night with Netflix and I think our data is pretty bad. We're in NJ, USA. It'll be okay for e-mail and such but for good Netflix viewing I had to get her on our Wifi.

And yes, Sprint's phone selection sucks. Size be damned, I'm going to get an S3. It's just too cool. I'll figure out how to deal with the size later.

You're within the return period, so I'd consider switching carriers.

How much is the discount? Might still be cheaper/faster to go with prepaid or T-Mobile or something.
