Samsung Galaxy Nexus or HTC Rezound ?

I have a delightfully first world problem here, I've got both phones coming to me. Which phone would you keep, which would you give to a family member?

I played with both, and I don't like Sense at all on the Rezound, it makes the phone lag a bit. I guess once you root it and put a plain vanilla ICS rom, it wouldn't be that bad. The screen is pretty nice, but looks really LCDish.

I don't think the Nexus's AMOLED screen is much better though. I prefer the 4/4S screen over both.

But - I love my Nexus and wouldn't trade it for anything right now.

Nexus, the only real bitches I've heard about it are that Verizon gasp, dared to put their logo on the back cover, the battery life is fairly short, the camera could be better, and that Verizon put the "My Verizon" app on it. Every review I've read calls it "The best Android phone yet"

Also, I'd suggest getting the extended battery ASAP, particularly if you intend on using the LTE.

i've had both (my rezound is actually being repaired due to a bootloop issue, so i bought a nexus on ebay)

i honestly like the rezound a little better hardware wise. its got a better camera and the size is nicer. but for me ICS stock with the updates was worth giving up the camera and nicer feel. the screen is definitely better for everything except reading in sunlight.

now they unlocked the rezound now, so i suppose once CM9 is on it, it will be pretty good too.

the nexus honestly doesn't feel nearly as nice to hold. the back is quite slippery because of the weird texture on it compared to the rubber back of the rezound. definitely get a case, the nexus at least for me is very easy to slip out of your hand.

Check out the Galaxy Nexus review on Anandtech front page. Great through review as always and I agree with pretty much their entire review of Galaxy Nexus and ICS. They call it the best Android phone.

I used the Rezound for a couple weeks and liked it - nice camera, great sound, fantastic display, better radio - but for what I do with my phone I prefer the GNex . Pure ICS rocks and the phone feels better in your hand, easy to mod & I'm getting better battery life from my GN than I did from my Rezound.

I would favor the rezound over the nexus; the nexus display is nice but it has a few issues. But in the end I went with the razr (though if i were buying today i would go with the razr maxx (razr with 3.3amp battery).

I wanted to like the nexus but at least the units I played with they had problems that would bother me if I had owned them.

If you intend to do any modding, then the Razr with its locked boot loader shouldn't even be considered at all. No need to support Moto's shitty business practices. Rezound is unlocked directly by HTC now.

Except that the unlock leaves S on, and a ton of people are bricking their phones assuming that it's S off and installing the wrong roms.

Wasn't aware of that. Goes under the 'Read the instructions' part though.

The Nexus is still the best option for phones on Verizon.

Get the Samsung. I had an HTC Sensation, technically I had 4 of them in 4 months. If you want to exchange your phone every month, get the HTC, if you just want it to work, get the Samsung.

The camera isn't really bad at all. In fact it's really good. The issue is that the phone takes picture before the focus completes. All you have to do is wait a sec before the picture gets in focus before taking the pic. I was out at a sushi restaurant with my friend who has a white 4s and the pics I took with my Nexus were somewhat better than his with vibrant colors.

I played with my friend's Rezound and it was really nice, but I was glad I held out for the Nexus. I love it.

The speaker is low, which is annoying, but can be fixed with software. The camera could be a little better, but it's no worse than any other phone camera. And, many people, including myself, seem to think it doesn't get as good a signal as their last phones...

But, I love this phone. All of the above problems don't cause enough hesitation to not recommend it! I love the size. I will not go any smaller in any future phone.

However, a Rezound with CM9 would be really nice, as well. I guess, I'd like to try that before making a final recommendation.

In this case, there's not a BAD decision!

The Rezound is in my hands 🙂

Initial thoughts

My current phone is an HTC Thunderbolt and I actually don't mind Sense so that isn't a problem to me on the stock Rezound. This phone is stylish, lighter than the Tbolt, like the rubber back, the screen quality is nice. I notice that this screen is longer and narrower than the Tbolt & I do prefer a shorter but wider screen. Transitions are smooth & snappy out of the box.

Will have to play with it more to form more solid impressions.

i have the rez and i really like it. played w/ the nexus too but the rz feels better in hand. I used to be super jealous and less so now that the rz has been unlocked and the beta ics roms are starting to show up. I would still give the nexus a slight edge in screen and thinness/early ICS and the rz the edge in hand feel/camera/speaker volume. Sorry if this is convoluted...watching the game on the other monitor while I type this. But they're both great phones 🙂.

oh yea rz too if you care about removables battery/sd card.
