This would be the first smartphone I've bought for myself. While I've used a fair few, I haven't researched or really used one primarily for myself.

My wife bought a HTC Desire S. Apart from the Facebook app not being very good, until recently she's been happy with it (it's been acting oddly when unlocking lately apparently). I would probably have gone for the same one, but then HTC changed their range again, and again, and again.

My use of the smartphone will probably be quite limited as I've done without for quite a long time. I'm thinking of getting a smartphone because the value of the package I'm on should be somewhat better and a couple of smartphone features could be handy - testing wi-fi in customers' homes and checking prices of things on-line when I'm away from home.

The Ace 2 has some nice midrange hardware, but I wouldn't get it until it's updated to ICS. Has the SGS2 hit a reasonable price yet in your country?

my wife has the galaxy ace and she likes it. i can't comment too much on it though because I tried really hard to not take it and play with it and leave it to her. then again, once i showed her androidminion (dominion clone), her primary uses of the phone now are androidminion, phone calls, text messages, alarm. We tried to put a bunch of research into it before we bought it, but it was our first (between us) smartphone, and i'm partially wondering now if the spec sheets and comparisons really don't matter unless you're gaming heavily on it, or using it heavily for internet while on the go.
