I guess there is gonna be a lot of refurbed Fascinates out there later when people buy it, say WTF Bing and return it.
 
Just return it. Verizon has the best options for Android, anyway, so she can get the Incredible, droid2, or droidx.
 
My wife and I have the Fascinate as well, and we do all our searches with Google... for voice search we use VLINGO... which has a nice looking widget and is way nicer than the built in android voice search anyway... Google is my default homepage... I actually don't use the Google widget... but I COULD... there's an APK for it at Android Central...

I use Launcher-pro... and don't give me shit about "needing" a new launcher... anyone on a verizon phone using Google search is on a crappier launcher Motoblur? Sense?... Launcher pro is way better.

And I haven't even rooted my phone. I don't see what the big deal is. If you customize your phone at all this should be a non-issue for you.
