Samsung Exynos 5 Dual on Chromebook, is it good?

Over he past month, I have been thinking about getting a Samsung Chromebook as my main laptop that I will use. (Screw you, Toshiba NB505!) The one thing I am worried about is the CPU, the Samsung Exynos 5 Dual. I have heard that the Samsung Exynos 5 Single was in a few phones (I don't really know). Is this CPU flawed for this machine? Does it preform well? Is it worth the $250 the Chromebook cost?

EDIT: I'm using this for Youtube, Twitch and general web surfing. (But mostly livestreams on Twitch )

unless you live purely on the web I would skip it and go for an windows machine like the acer v5 122p ir the asus vivobook x202...

Ahh, should have gone for the NB550D! (It had the AMD C-60 in it.) Lovely little netbook, I have one

As for the Chromebook: meh, should work for internet streaming. I still vote for getting the Acer C7 (Chromebook with a Celeron in it), and putting Ubuntu on it.

That was my next question, C7 vs Samsung Chromebook? Is the shortened battery life and extra bulk worth the performance? I would like to be able to get some game like Minecraft at crap to decent settings if the Celeron will let me. :sneaky: I may just go with the Samsung, because I will be taking this laptop around quite a bit, even know I would miss out on the extra preformance.

Wait for laptops/convertibles with either AMD's "Temash" or Intel's "Bay Trail".

Youtube, twitch, and web surfing? Why not an iPad? Even it is more versatile with better applications than the chromebook, if you can ignore not having a keyboard by default.

I just sold my Samsung Chromebook on Craigs List. I found it wasn't for me, but it wasn't a bad machine by any means. The Exynos 5 chip was fine, so long as you worked within its limitations, limited tabs, and what not.

I didn't like that if you disconnected from the Internet, the Chromebook is a paperweight, and limited storage hurts it.

OP should cruise around eBay and CL locally, could probably pick one up for much less than MSRP. Sold mine for 130, and it was in perfect condition. Could have sold it for more, but I'm not patient and wanted it off my coffee table.

You can use a keyboard with the ipad, although with emails and what not it's not absolutely needed - and the ipad mini costs substantially less.

I dunno. I personally find the chromebook to be limited even in comparison to the average ipad and android tablet - which is not a good thing. As others have stated, it's merely a paperweight if you want to do anything besides browse the web - I really think iOS/android tablets are better in this respect with far better application ecosystems. As well, i'm under the impression that video playback is superior on something such as the iPad 3/4 or the Nexus 7 tablets. I've learned to just finger tap very quickly for typing on the ipad, so the lack of a keyboard doesn't bother me - although you can use a BT keyboard if you really wanted.

I want the features and the interface of a laptop, I don't like holding tablets, resting my laptop on my lap is easier for me. The iPad mini cost more than the laptops I am looking at.

Well, for just basic browsing I don't think there's anything better than the Chromebook - beyond that it isn't very versatile, but it will do what you want (youtube, twitch and browsing). I'm not sure i'd opt for a windows notebook in that price range, because you'll likely only find clunkers for 250$.

Have you considered going used? Back in March I purchased a Toshiba Satellite L355D-S7901 here on the forums for around $115 shipped. I'm not sure how it stacks up against the Cromebook but judging by what others are saying it seems much more versatile.

I always look for the best price, but there are no places that I can find a SS CB for less that $250, but I'll look around on ebay.

I think you missed what I was trying to say. I didn't necessarily mean try and find a used SS CB, but maybe try looking for a used laptop in general. Older models tend to go pretty cheap especially ones with AMD cpu's. That's what I was eluding to in my first post.

Atoms are not created equal. Yeah, the 45nm single core Atoms you have experienced are not so great. The current generation of Atom is much better, and the next gen Atom is going to be another large step forward.

Atoms lagged behind desktop tech, but Intel is bringing them to the forefront now.

The E5D is no powerhouse. It should handle video of the native screen resolution fine, but the native screen is not 1080p, so it might struggle with that.

When you're shopping for entire computers for <$300 you're gonna have to give something up. Wait until next gen atoms if you want a real shot at reasonable PC performance from a netbook, but still $300 will usually be packaged with limited RAM and sluggish storage that will mean the performance won't be the same as a snappy 8GB+ RAM / SSD equipped desktop PC.
