Newegg's mailer this morning is featuring a Sambsung 1TB disk for $69.99 (with promo code). The description says "retail" but the packaging described by users is probably OEM so you probably need a cables too. I didn't find any information about warrnty for this drive.

Is this an incredible price on a 1TB drive or have I just not been paying close enough attention lately?

GO GO LOWER! i love tech prices as time goes on. Wait long enough and stuff = practically free.

This is as low as 1TB drives go. They did have the older model a few weeks back for $67.50 or something like that. So this is a good deal.

Just picked up 2 myself.

Hard disk prices have been in freefall since the beginning of the year. 1TB drives were running about 3 times as much. I think Seagate's firmware problems contributed to the rapid fall in prices -- once the problems were fixed, they had to offer deep discounts to get back in the market then other manufacturers had to drop prices to compete.

FWIW, there's a review of the Samsung EcoGreen drive posted a year ago.

This is music to my ears... er, eyes. Barely a month a go they were at 80. I'm waiting until they're 50-60 to pull the trigger on one or a couple.

Also, figure in 2.5% cashback for Newegg. That brings the total to 68.25, for the extra frugal.

I'm really interested in this drive for storage/server purposes. Anyone know how these stack up versus the WD Green drives? I love the Samsung F1s.

Thanks, in for one. These slower, cooler, low-power drives are perfect for media storage.

If you're buying, Newegg still has a bunch of xbox and PS3 games for $9-15 with free shipping. I added Crackdowm ($10), Operation Darkness ($15) and Stranglehold ($10 PS3) to my order. Dark Sector is a dumb fun shooter that's worth the $20 I paid and a steal at newegg's price of $9.

I too am wondering this. I'd love to setup a nice 4-5 TB raid 5 array with some cheap drives.

What's the promo code?

Edit: Interesting. Now that I've checked, it seems that I'm not getting the savings flyer e-mails from NewEgg anymore. I wonder why.

Well It really isnt that. Sure that probably contributed to it some, but I think the largest contributor is that this is a 5400rpm drive and 500gb platters are more common now.

$60-80 seems to be where 2 platter drives have tended to end up and this is a 2 platter drive. previous 1TB drives were 3 or 4 platters.

The seagate effect didnt seem to do much . Even now a western digital 1.5TB green power costs much more than the 7200.11 1.5TB (which has a bad reputation even though they fixed the firmware issues).

I'm sure in another year or so we will be posting hot deals @ $70 on 1.3 GB drives with 700 gb per plater densities.
