samsung dvd burner

this drive seems to me so so very slow. slower than my older computer. i'll stick media in it and it will take like 10-15 seconds to read it. is this the norm and rom drives are just this slow? (i dont rememeber them being this slwo in any of the last comptuers i ever owned) or is there some sort of thing i can do to make it faster? the firmware is up to date.

check to make sure the drive is running in dma mode not pio. get to device manager, then click on your IDE controller and right click on the primary channel, select properties. click on the advanced tab and make sure the transfer mode is set to dma.
